A New Section: Coldfish's Game Summary Of Our Last Outing
*Spoiler Tag since it is long
Spoiler:
coldfish wrote:Game summary:

The Bulls showed a lot more effort in the first half. Particularly the starters. People were trying noticeably harder to get rebounds. The starters were also more active on defense early. The bench unit was poor and started runs for Detroit both times. A little bit more bench time and this may have been a loss. The game was closer than the score. Chicago's effort, even from the starters, was significantly less in the second half.

Game ratings:
8.5 Pau Gasol. If he keeps playing like this, he will be Chicago's best ever free agent signing. He continues to generate offense from the post and also be an outlet jump shooting option. Tried harder on the boards and was contesting shots in close. Still not great when he has to move his feet or close long distances.

8.0 Joakim Noah. Seemed to turn it on this game. Was the most active I have seen him all season and did the little things to clean up the game. Nice passing, a few timely tip ins and he was physical in trying to get defensive boards.

7.5 Derrick Rose. Shot the ball well. Had some nice drive and kicks. Was very active on defense early. Even showed a post game. He did not run the offense well at all though. Continually drove into triple teams while passing up easier options. He got away with it a few times by making hard shots but it was a lot of bad reads. In the second half, his effort level on defense went down a lot.

7.0 Jimmy Butler. Had a tough defensive assignment in Smith. He didn't really attack as much on offense and he missed a bunch of wide open shots. Was still effective though.

7.0 Aaron Brooks. He continues to impress me. Scored in isolation. Tried to run the offense. Shot well and took smart shots. His d wasn't great but wasn't awful. He had a poor +/- but I didn't think he was the root cause of it.

5.0 Taj Gibson. This was not one of his better games. Had a few nice post moves but he continues to lose rebounds. His defense is noticeably worse than last year too, even next to Noah. I hope his ankle is bothering him.

4.5 Mike Dunleavey. Was basically invisible. Missed some open shots. Didn't do much on either side of the court really.

3.0 Doug McDermott. Basically came in and missed an open shot. Wasn't particularly active outside of that.

2.5 Kirk Hinrich. Another bad game for him. He isn't even really playing consistently well on defense. I was concerned that Thibs would use him in the closing unit but Thibodeau pulled him for Dunleavey, which was the right move.

2.0 Nicola Mirotic. Really poor game. He was turning his back at the wrong time on defense. Really poor awareness and help. Didn't do anything on offense other than running one play correctly.

Thursday November 13th, Bulls at Toronto. 7pm CST. On TNT
This Thursday we take on our previous brothers in tank (for some of us at least). The Toronto Kyle Lowry's

Mk0's Tale of the Tape AKA Shenanigans and $#!T Talking
Toronto is the hottest team in the East right now at 6-1... technically. While they have beaten two solid teams in Atlanta and DC they have lost to Miami and their other 4 wins were against the Magic, depleted OKC, Boston and The 76ers.

Dudes have been B-U-M bumslaying. Can we muscle up and beat down these prehistoric sons of beaches?

This evening the Bulls started the first half by scoring 60 on the helpless Pissed-Ons.

Pau Gasol dropped 17/15/4 and farted on the collective pillows of the Pistons bigs before smothering them to sleep.

JoNo awoke from his stoned haze to pull in 13/17/6/4. Looking more and more like himself as the season goes on.

Jim-Jam got turnt up, for 19/4 and shooting 50% and hitting 4/7 from downtown. He only played 42.5 minutes. The god damned slacker..

But most importantly we got to see how Jimmy plays with Rose. Who managed to get 24/7/2 in 32m had some shiny dimes to Pau and Noah.

Bonus points for Brooks who had 10 points in 11 mins. This guy is going to need more minutes if we wanna beat the Raps.

Keys to the Game

Rose vs Lowry
Two of the best point guards in the East are facing up against one another. In the past this is the type of game that brings out the best in Derrick. Lets hope we see more of that on Thursday night.

Jimmy vs DeRozan
Jimmy needs to stop DeMar. DeRozan is scoring 22.7 on the season and he has only had two stinker games of less than 20 points, scoring 15 (season opener) and 16 respectively. Minus those two games he has scored 23, 24, 25, 26 and 30 (against Miami). Jimmy stops DeRozan and our shot at winning the game spikes.

Reb-God-Damned-Bounding
This game gives us a very good chance at getting our rebound swag back. Jonas Valanciunas is their leading rebounder and he only averages 7.2 per game. The issue is that he only plays 23mpg right now. Lets hope that we get our box-out mojo back.

Good Luck Charms

Final Thoughts
This team needs a win against a good team. A win in Toronto is just what the doctor ordered. TNT Thursday Night, Derrick going up against a top tier PG. Jimmy facing up against a shooting guard who scores over 20 a game.. Whoooo boy.

Also to you Raps fans that venture in here. Let it be known that this is all tongue in cheek mockery. Big fan of your team and you guys have the best sense of humor so I doubt anyone will get their jimmies rustled.

But just in case. As a token of peace.

Should be a fun one, looking forward to our first real test of the season against you guys, and as well as the opportunity to debut our talents on national television. My prediction: Raps 89 Chicago 82.

As for the game, the Raptors run a legitimate 10 man rotation. Because of that, if we go with an 8 man rotation, we could get exposed at points during this game.

We will be asking a lot of Rose & Butler, who will have to play both sides of the ball with the way Lowry and DeRozan are playing at the moment.

We do have a decent break, though.

Lowry / Vasquez
DeRozan / Williams
Ross / J Johnson
A Johnson / Patterson
Valanciunas / Hansbrough

That's a really solid team. So solid that they're 2nd in offense and 6th in defensive rating. They were top 10 in both last season as well.

Will be interesting to see how our offense does against a quality defensive unit with bigs that are difficult to move around.

Hopefully Lowry and DeRozan's 3 ball remains broken for this game.

The Bulls have 9 players above league average TS%, 5 guys above league average in 3P% and 5 guys with PERs above 20.

Keep this up, please.

First of all.

That girl on the right is freaking hot.

2nd Raps are my 2nd favorite team but we will this one.

And no way we score only 82 points. Well if you predict a 35 minutes night for Hinrich you might be right.

Key is to limit the minutes of Kirk and let him play the Butler backup minutes. Give Brooks the 16-18 minutes as a Rose backup. Mirotic could be effective vs. Amir Johnson so Rose has a lane. So I suggest at least 10 minutes for Mirotic and 15 for McDermott.

I updated the OP to include a new section with Coldfish's summary of the last game, including his insane soccer rating system.

YEA I SAID SOCCER.

I think it is a nice addition rather than my usual linking to the PG thread. Plus this might entice people to HELP OUT WITH MAKING AWESOME GAME THREADS!

*ahem*

Pardon me.

There are a few resources on the board that we should really utilize for making the GTs. The PG summary is one, there are always great links to the Tribs' pics as well as the awesome dawk ins youtube videos. I am going to start putting together a template so all you space monkeys have to do is link the gifs and pics you want to include and fill in some simple info so we don't have those barren GTs running around.

Maybe we can get a sticky for GT resources and links? It would be sweet to have all those pics posted in the game threads in one place. Especially once the poster machines start churning out Tajiwoo facial dunks. It would be awesome to have a Bulls only media thread to pick vids, gifs and pics from.
