http://www.csnchicago.com/bulls/bulls-notes-mcdermott-knee-feels-new-man"I feel like a new man than I did even to start the year," McDermott said. "I just feel fresh, man. My legs feel fresh, my knees feel 100 percent better. I’m squatting better than I ever have and my shot feels really good, so I’m excited to get back."
McDermott said he hopes his continued rehabilitation will allow him to begin practicing in "a couple weeks," and that his six-to-eight week timetable given after his surgery on Dec. 13 will be closer to the former than the latter.

http://www.rotoworld.com/recent/nba/2332/doug-mcdermottDoug McDermott (knee) is making good progress, and has ramped up his activities in the past week.
He has been shooting, riding a stationary bicycle, and will now start running in water when the stitches from last Saturday's arthroscopic surgery to repair (edit : original text said remove but this appears incorrect) a small meniscus in his right knee. McDermott said that he hopes to beat his timetable and make it back to the court soon, and we will be sure to monitor his status closely and provide any updates as needed. However, he is still far off of the radar in standard leagues and can be left on the wire.

The procedure will be performed by Bulls head team physician Dr. Brian Cole of Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, the team said.
Still hoping this might happen someday! ...

I wonder how close he is to playing. One of my favorite parts of watching this team is seeing the rooks.

It would be great if he can be competent enough to steal 5 minutes a game from Jimmy for the second half of the year. Regardless of why he played so poorly early, the break could be a great thing for him. Just hope he is smart enough to pick up the systems and not be a liability out there in that regard.

I still have faith in Doug. A guy with that size and 3 point shooting ability should be able to contribute. Kyle Korver looked bad when he was first in the NBA.

I could be wrong but isn't removing it instead of repairing it the thing that shortens NBA players career just so they can come back faster?

he had surgery on dec 13, considering the timetables mentioned I'm guessing dude will be back by mid january.
Hope this time helped him to calm down, he was looking worse every game before the injury. I'm sure he studied the film of his games and knows it by now. Bulls need him to be a younger Mike Dunleavy on rookie scale salary, the sooner the better. When the year started I thought he could be crazy efficient with his 3s like korver, maybe he still can.

He needs to address his confidence. If he is confident in his play he will be stud pretty soon.
Damn if McDermott could contribute come April, we would be unstoppable. McDermott gives Butler some more rest and we don't have to see Snell ever again.

It's not a meniscus tear.

A good point, I should clarify the surgery.

Not trying to antagonize you, but these are conflicting stories (in the OP)...
1 says remove, the other says repair. I think that's a fairly substantial difference.

I agree, and no worries. At this point I'm just listing all the sources I can find and let people make their own opinion. If you find a truly authoritative information I'd be very happy to remove the conflict.

From the Tribune a couple weeks ago:
"When we got the MRI, I was definitely shocked," said the rookie, who never missed a game in high school or college. "But then (team physician Brian) Cole explained this is very minor and I'll be feeling (ready) to play within a week."
Fellow Creighton alum Kyle Korver, now with the Hawks, told McDermott he had similar procedure and his knee is fine.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/ba ... story.htmlIt doesn't sound like the same procedure guys like Wade and Bledsoe had and I haven't read or heard about any possible long term implications stemming from it.

No problem... I trust KCJ over "rotoworld" anyway.

I think when it's a really small tear, they just take out that small part of the meniscus, if it is a really big tear they just take the whole thing out and if it's something in between they repair it.
My guess is McD had the really small kind
