Tom Thibodeau has been Terrible this year

I am failing to see where Thibs is adding value this year.
-His bread and butter is defense, yet we have been utterly mediocre on this end.
-Our offensive system is basically a series of ISO plays. Teams are playing beautiful basketball all over the league, yet Thibs is channeling Scott Brooks. He insists on this team posting up Gasol at every opportunity despite the inefficiency of that look. He allows Rose to jack 3's like he's Steph Curry.
-His handling of the big rotation is a disaster. All concerns about the frontcourt logjam have been vindicated. Thibs is actively making the team worse with his frontcourt pairings.
-He gives entitlement minutes to Kirk and Noah, even though both have been liabilities to date that cripple us on offense and have deteriorated on defense.
-Overall, his team just doesn't come out and play hard. They are consistently stagnant to start games, and I can only recall a few instances where the team was locked in and executing for an extended period of time in a game.
That's not to say we don't have personnel issues. We do. But more than anything, we just look like an undisciplined and poorly coached ball club.

i think players are starting to tune him out
that hard-ass demeanor wears thin on players after a few years....ask Scott Skiles

Its the boozer effect.
He took all the negative attention away from players on the squad.
lol

Cowley on the score yesterday said there is a pretty large rift forming between some of the players (Rose, Noah) and Thibs regarding practice. He basically called Jen Swanson their bad cop because she keeps blocking Thibs and the rest of the training staff on some things with those two.
Then you have Taj admitting after the Utah game that the team has a huge head and believes they can out score everyone and they take the defense side off.
Thibs has some faults, but he can only do so much. He should bench Noah, but that would make little difference if the players come out playing like they have recently.

I had the guy pegged as an elite NBA coach, but are any of those bullet points even remotely arguable? Thibs has been just a big disappointment as Noah and Rose so far this season.

If this is true then this team is toast.
Rose has never been a player to disagree with the coach. He always did what Thibs wanted him to do without question.
This guy has a big head now, BJ and his brother has corrupted his mind. It's over now.

J/K I don't think he's been that bad. But he's definitely stubborn as a mule.

If that's true, I cannot side with the players when they are playing so badly.
If we were crushing people and Thibs kept going ape over rare losses, and busting their butts in practice, it would be different.
But on what account do they have to want to slack in practice? The team is a mess.

It might be him, or it might be the personnel.
Honestly, hard to tell at this point.
Phil Jackson still had an elite group of names in 2011. Mastermind coach, yet the team kept getting called out for unfocused play. They got badly trumped in the 2nd round by a lower seed (the eventual champion Mavs, but still). All it took was one summer to see that Odom, Bynum and most those role-players were completely done; shreds of their old selves.
Not a completely analogous situation, but I doubt Thibs' defensive gameplan turned stupid overnight. His big-name stars are putting up career-worst numbers on both ends of the floor (Noah, Rose). Taj's role is down, because 2 new "replacements" have been added. We have 2 rookies.

This team is in denial if they think they can do this all season and just win in the playoffs like Magic.
Based on Gasol's words, I think he understands that we are far away. Too bad he's too old to really spearhead a turn-around himself.

What has Thibs been good at this year?

Definition of the beginnings of losing a team if so. Rose and Jimmy we heard from first. They came into the year with this stuff.
I don't sense they want to play the way they have in past years. Taj will. Niko seems like a gamer that would fit in with years past. Kirk I guess, but he is losing steam. Noah is losing steam. The rest of this current Bulls team is not as hardcore.

Part of the problem has been Thibs rotation of the big men and the other has been the issue with Rose trying to force himself becoming elite on this team. This team doesn't need him to be the old Rose, it needs him to be the more efficient and elite Rose. Noah does not need to be in the game when the team needs to dominate offensively. Thibs refuse to rotate Noah and Niko or Noah and Taj when the game is close. The other issue is that Rose has now started to affect Jimmy's game. As someone stated earlier in another thread Jimmy was being used as option 1a in the offense with Pau as option 1. Now it seems Rose is forcing himself to be option 1 and that has killed the chemistry and momentum of the TEAM. Thibs needs to get a handle on things and get back to what was working in December. The options should be Pau, Jimmy and then Rose. Then Thibs needs to bring Noah off the bench with Niko in the 2nd unit. Kirk should be getting spot minutes to rest both Jimmy and Rose and not playing alongside either.

It's not so much that as I just don't think the legit disagreements I have with him would entirely salvage the team right now.
There is more going wrong, related to talent, team balance, health, etc.
Other words I don't see Thibs as the sole difference between us leading the Conference and looking like the best team in the league and where we are now.

http://chicago.cbslocal.com/audio/the-s ... elly-show/Joe Cowley Tuesday January 13, its a short interview 8 mins and he goes a little nuclear, but there is a lot of info in there regarding Thibs, the FO and the players.

So I guess making jimmy the number one option will just fix everything. Sounds about right

All of the sudden overnight, they orient the team totally around an imported 7 foot scorer part time ball stopper with a laid-back personality and light defense. In hindsight.....

Based on what Thibs is saying in post-games, Cowley is making a fair argument.
Jen is 'mommy' getting Jo and Rose out of school.
But real question, is Pax backing her? If so, then Thibs could be in some jeopardy.

So no identifiable value then.
This team having other issues doesn't preempt Thibs from being terrible this year.
