Starting Snell?

Tony is showing that he isnt Teague and while he has a long way to go, we saw at least in the first half last night and a couple previous games that he is all about confidence, as many of us assumed. I think if we arent trading him, his only value is with some regular playing time. Spot minutes he is a ghost out there on both ends.
Anyone think maybe MDJ off the bench would be good? Playing the backup 2 and 3 since Jimmy does better at the 2, and then see if Doug can work his way into minutes at the 3 and Niko as well?
Seeing Tony in the first half yesterday using his length and ballhandling had me ROCK HARD at the idea of him working for a summer with Pip. Am I the only one? He wont ever be Pip but his ball handling is surprisingly good and you cant teach that length, cause if you could, T-Rex Jimmy would be the MVP
Thoughts on a Snell start?
We seem to need a lineup shake up in general
Gasol
Taj
Snell
Butler
Rose
Noah
Niko
MC3
MDJ
Kurt (if our offensive guys are playing how they should, we need Hinrich more than Brooks)
*I do like Moore and think he could take Hinrichs spot next year as combo guard but I bet Kurt is back on vet min next year.

In Tony's best game of the season (last night), he shot 33% FG, 20% 3P with 7 points. On the season, Dunleavy is averaging 45% FG, 42% 3P, and almost 10 points.
So no, I don't think MDJ should come off the bench in lieu of Snell.
The only time "Tony" and "rock hard" should be used in the same sentence is in reference to bricks. I would love Snell to be a player, as he seemingly has all the tools to, but he just is not there.

People on this board have a tendency to get excited over really small things. We've seen it with Basden and Teague, and we saw it a lot with Snell last year too.
Admittedly, I've been unable to catch the past few games, but he sure as hell hasn't done enough to suddenly be gifted a starting spot.

He's being showcased in case there is a chance of a minor trade.
Air P called it correctly.

Sad to say he's still worse than Kirk and much worse than Dun.
I think Ronnie brewer coming in off the street outplays him defensively.
We definitely could end up getting a guy off waivers who is better.

I don't know about starting him over Dunleavy but I'm fine with him starting while he's out. He's finally getting longer than 2-3 min stretches of play and is proving that he's not quite the bust everybody thought he was, go figure...
I still believe in you Tony! Also, if I was in the Bulls FO I'd order Snell to spend his whole offseason with Noah, especially if he's still a virgin (like was speculated before in a previous thread). Noah can probably find him some bad bitches AND maybe even introduce him to pot, maybe make him more relaxed and not so nervous/timid (though with Tony, he may need something like PCP, his primary issue is not enough energy, not too much energy).

Please trade him!
He needs to go to a young team..

If anything, I think Snell starting while MDJ has been out is the evidence necessary to show why MDJ should remain the starter. Jimmy has been struggling IMO because there is less space for him to operate due to the respect MDJ gets as a shooter (vs. Snell). Snell has been decent defensively (steals, rebounds, etc...minus the time last night when Wall missed the breakaway layup and Beal followed it up while Snell was left standing there nailed to the floor), but it still seems an awful lot like we are playing 4 vs. 5 on offense when Snell is on the floor with the starters.

Sell high!!!!
Tony has all the tools...but he seems to have trouble putting it (and keeping it) together when real bullets are flying.

Butler’s Open+ FG% is 60.95 (meaning that no defender is within three feet of him with a hand raised), which is the best of any shooting guard in the NBA. Since Dunleavy has been injured, Butler’s Open+ Frequency (the percent of his shots that have been Open+ attempts) is only 28.9 percent. On the season, that number is 36.59 percent.

Thanks Johnny! That's what I clumsily tried to say and you did SO much better.

I wouldn't start him when MDJ is healthy but he should be getting a minimum of 12 mpg. He might be the longest SG in the league and is already a very good man defender IMO.

I agree with this. I think he should play more than he does and I still have hopes for him. Even last night, he showed some flashes of what he could be. That one play where he just missed throwing it down after making a beautiful move was impressive and his defense, at times, was good. He still makes a lot of mental errors on D though, but usually makes up for it. But, he should not start over MDJ.

I dont think hes overall that great, yet, I do think hes trending up with playing time. Cmon Basden? My cousin took him on a date to church once lol. I heard that is something he does with a lot of girls. Weird. Anyway, Tony is playing a bit more like the player they thought he was when drafting him.
I am not saying he needs starters minutes, but if we wanna get value from him and maybe take some of Kirks minutes, this may be a good way to do it.
I would be curious to see what he will be after a summer with Pip, if he is not traded

Start Snell over a healthy MDJ - No.
Get him consistent rotational minutes - yes. Using a hockey line analogy the first team should be Gasol/Gibson/Dunleavy/Butler/Rose Second team should be: Noah/Mirotic/McDermott/Snell/Brooks
I think, given just a little time and investment, Snell can provide more than Hinrich on a more consistent basis on both sides of the ball.
Tony is not a starter but I'm pretty sure he can be a good bench player going forward.

He doesn't like forcing the issue and I feel that he feels he's not tenured enough.
He would greatly benefit being on a young team or having a pass first point guard.
Hinrich has been really bad so far. Snell in the Hinrich role is possible.

The good thing about this little phase of play is that once we have Dunleavy back we can go to town against other teams with a bench unit of:
Brooks + Kirk + Snell + Niko + Taj.
Even in the playoffs, that would be a tough 5 to matchup against for teams without straining their starters more.

The problem with that lineup is PG defense.
Take Washington's bench for example:
Andre Miller + Martell Webster + Rasoul Butler + Kris Humphries + Seraphin
We need a guard who can guard PG's. At the same time we have to be able to play Brooks. Thats the ONLY reason why Kirk gets into the Brooks lineups.

Nah, Snell shouldn't start when MDJ comes back...but it's nice to see that people think he can be a capable 8-11 man soon. I'm really pulling for him to be a rotation player.

From his point of view it's probably better if he got traded so he could play somewhere, and try and play his way into another contract by the end of next season.
