Practice Today Was Cancelled...It Was Thibs' Decision (UPDATED)

Thibs had scheduled a practice for today, but about an hour ago, this happened...

@kcjhoop (K.C. Johnson)

#Bulls PR sends out update saying that practice has been called off.

After last night's disaster, Gasol said this:

#Gasol postgame: "We have two days between games we haven't had in over a month so it will be good to recover and go back to work Wednesday."

And about 4 hours ago, K.C. Johnson tweeted this:

#Bulls did have Sunday off. But players talked about first 2-day break since Dec. 21 as chance to recover. Instead, Thibodeau calls practice.

So something changed in the last couple hours. I wonder if player(s) complained to the front office and they told Thibs to cancel practice?

You can believe in conspiracies. But, I think the players requested they need their time off to Thibs. Sometimes, there needs to be back and forth communication.

Let's remember the practice was probably scheduled in the heat of the moment after a bad loss.

Cooler heads probably prevailed after a night's sleep. I hope all this puts some sort if urgency into how they show up in the 1st and 3rd quarters.

Praying it was just that, cause if they went over his head to get the day off....bad times ahead.

It kinda seems like this team is going through what the Knicks went through after having their one decent season when they went to the playoffs under Mike Woodson. The next year they had basically the same team but no one felt like trying. I'm sure Woodson wasn't doing anything differently but you could tell the best player, melo, was basically tuning him out. Melo is a terrible leader so I don't think that's too surprising. I see a lot of Melo in Rose nowadays so I'm not that surprised that the team is trending in a similar direction.

Glad it was called off because when I seen that Thibs already said there would be practice I said to myself this guy is literally insane and I am sure the players groaned about hearing this news

I'm not sure going over Thibs' head (if that's what they did, which we don't know) = any kind of conspiracy

But there's obvious a disconnect, not only between Thibs and (some of) the players, but also between the players themselves, as shown by Pau's and Taj's conflicting comments about practice (Pau feeling they need day off to recover, Taj talking about needing to practice even harder)

Something has happened to turn this team from a tight-knit group that played hard pretty much no matter what, to the mess it currently is. I don't know what happened. It could be a bunch of things that have added up, rather than just one specific thing.

Off-course, Pau doesn't want to practice as he is older, played a lot of minutes especially with Joakim's injury. Taj is trying to increase the intensity. Both are not wrong. But, if Pau requests Thibs to let them off and Taj/Derrick want to practice, Thibs probably cooled down and changed his mind to accommodate Pau.

What has happened or not....we do not know. Hopefully, it's not that Pau is requesting defensive drills off in practices and that's showing up in games.

IMO, he is the only guy without the hunger like others. Remember how he mentioned about why he liked the Bulls because they had the hunger to win. Is he not liking the work required to satisfy that hunger because his body says no.

And, let's not forget even his practice drills and work has increased without Noah. Something or somebody has to give-in a littlebit.

Closer to home, this feels more like the end of the Skiles era to me. Not there yet, but a lot of the same issues are cropping up where effort and intensity is questioned on a nightly basis and the players aren't responding. Also Thibs' postgame comments lately seem a lot like Skiles' towards the end where it was at first anger and challenging his guys and later on it was clear that he just didn't have any more answers.

Players knew about cancelled practice long before word got to media. As previously mentioned, many go in anyway for shots, treatment, film.

This has to be fake right? Wouldn't it be plastered everywhere? It seems pretty incendiary.

Thursday can't get here soon enough. How we respond to the Cleveland loss and everything else will say a lot.

Also, trading guys because they're a problem in the locker room? Or is Thibbs talking about benching guys? Who wants to give me a hug and have a nice cry with me?

I agree with whoever said in another thread that they are pissed and just don't seem to have the answers. Maybe they are a little disappointed that Thibbs doesn't seem to have more answers.
