Aaron Brooks Has Been Underappreciated

3rd in the league in 3% behind Korver and surprisingly Courtney Lee at 45.5%. On a minimum contract, he's giving us 10 points a game, spreading the floor and clutch play.
For all the talk about lack of spacing on the roster, Brooks is providing that at a high level. Too bad he isn't 6'6", but the guy has done everything asked of him and has excelled at it this season. He doesn't get appreciated enough with all the other problems this team has had this year so I wanted to call it out.

Yeah, he's been something of an offensive life saver, along with Jimmy. Quite unexpected considering all the more hyped acquisitions we thought would change the team around.
But I actually think we depend on Brooks too much to solve our shooting, volume scoring, and being another threat factor on the floor.
Any quality offensive matchup has usually eaten him alive defensively and him with Rose in the backcourt together, seems like a route to getting exploited in the playoffs and coming up short.

He's definitely been one of the more consistent players out there this year. And the overall lack of effort is noticeable from the team, but I haven't seen that from Brooks. Motor is always running and I appreciate that. His spacing has gone rather unnoticed because he backs up Derrick and we all particularly clamor for spacing for Derrick to drive.

It's interesting, statistically, he's been far and away the best scorer out of all the little guys we've had over the past few years, but with Rose in the lineup his impact doesn't feel as big, naturally.
Of course, he has his flaws, notably his size and subsequently defense, as well as being more of a scoring guard than a true PG, but he's still been our only consistent bench perimeter player all year. He's shot the ball incredibly well.
Something to consider is that our finishing lineup is usually Rose/Brooks/Butler, along with a combination of whichever bigs are playing well. Goes to show we can be successful, and more importantly, Thibs can have confidence in, a lineup where Jimmy is at the 3. That's why I think it's not essential that we trade for an SF, but rather an SG OR SF, whichever player fits best in terms of their skill-set.

Per 36 minutes he's playing identically to Rose.
Rose per 36
21.9 ppg 5.6 apg 3.7 rpg 0.7 spg 3.9 TOV 6.7 3PA
Brooks per 36
20.1 ppg 5.0 apg 3.2 rpg 1.1 spg 3.2 TOV 6.0 3PA
I think he's my favorite vet min 6'0 shooter off the bench of the ones we've signed. I hope we keep this one. (But i know we won't so we can pay Hinrich).

Thibs would never start Brooks, whether he is our best PG or not so far, because everyone knows we would have no hope to win a title that way. Kyrie/Wall/Teague/Lowry would drop 30+ a game on him, if not even more in a series.
Bulls are riding Rose through thick and thin because if he doesn't get at least back to 80% of what he was, we have no chance in the post-season to do anything of note.

I'm a fan of what Brooks provides on offense, but he's a huge liability on defense. He might go get you 10 off the bench, but teams go right at him on defense. He's got the effort, he just isn't big enough.
Of the guys we've had in that role though, he's doing very well. Nate is the only guy I'd put over him, think Brooks is right on par with DJ.

we've lost 3 in a row. Not sure this is the proper time to start an appreciation thread

He sometimes forgets he has 4 more teammates when he is out of the bench. Last game @ Houston, the first thing he did once he was on court was shooting. Mirotic has been suffering this the most, he is forced to shoot once he catches the ball because he knows it is probably the only chance he has to take it in a play. We need a backup PG that handle and pass the ball since both Rose and AB make the same thing

Not by me...I loved this signing from day one and he hasn't disappointed me.
What has been disappointing is knowing how good we are and how we're not even close to seeing it.

he's been significantly better than rose, people. which is sad not only because derrick's offensive game is in the tank, his shot selection abysmal, but unlike brooks he is a capable defender when he wants to be (which isn't often).

The biggest ASSUMPTION made by anyone who picked the Bulls as favorites was that Derrick Rose would be closer to who he was.
That assumption has so far proven out to be faulty.
Aaron, all by his little tiny self, helped to offset the massive disaster that could have been if the full ramifications of the above assumption failing had played out.
He's been our best guard on offense so far.
