Lance Stephenson Revisited

After Carmelo, Lance Stephenson was the 2nd most discussed FA this past offseason. I think the board was split, but there were certainly a handful of posters who were intrigued with his skillset, defense and youth. Although I knew he wasn't having a great season, I recently checked his regular season stats and I was SHOCKED to see how bad his shooting/scoring has been:

MPG: 29.9 / PPG: 9.0 / RPG: 5.6 / APG: 4.9 / FG%: 37.1 / 3PT%: 15.2% / TS%: 40.9% / PER: 8.97

Yikes... did the Bulls dodge a bullet or does he need to play for certain coaches/styles in order to be effective? Thoughts? Personally, I could see him being more motivated here but his attitude has always sucked and I wouldn't want to touch him with those shooting numbers. When you factor in Rose and Butler's mediocre long range shooting, adding Stephenson would've been awful for our spacing.

They dodged a bullet in a sense that Butler was able to develop into the player he is today.

However, I think Stephenson just didn't fit the system in Charlotte. I still think he's a very good young talent that could be cancerous in the locker room, but it's unfair to judge him based on his performance with the Hornets. Hopefully he gets traded soon.

His low PER during a "breakout season" was always a red flag on top of the known chemistry/character issues. I was interested but not for the prices rumored

Well he is not happy where he is playing and its safe to say his teammates don't like him very much

I still like his game. Everything I've seen from him shows me he's a bad person, but I think he'd play well in Chicago. I'm a basketball fan, not the moral police.

I remember reading Larry Bird saying the team was used to Lance's in-practice antics during lay-up lines, drills, etc. and thinking.. "in practice antics? That doesn't sound like a Thibs player."

It's no shock The Bulls didn't sign Lance. I am sorta shocked by how bad he looks but then again he's just in the wrong situation. He should have stayed in Indi on a short deal.

Even if he was good, he wouldn't be worth the headache. They dodged a bullet....but in reality I doubt the Bulls even thought of him as an option.

I kinda wanted him but didn't think he'd be a good fit. Now that he's completely **** insane I'm perfectly fine with him being our 10th guy off the bench.

I'm more shocked that anyone thought he was any good.
He's a terrible team basketball player.

I'd much rather have Josh Smith than Lance Stephenson.

His numbers didn't look good on the Pacers. I don't even know why some people thought he was snubbed from the ASG.

He's still a competent wing though, I'm sure he could help our depth.

Same. His pay is way too high for what he brings.

His signing would have all but hosed the Bulls.

I think it's just the opposite. Stephenson seems like the type who flourished in Indiana, and it made him look better than he was. Now granted, the lack of shooting in Charlotte isn't helping, but he didn't exactly have great shooting in Indiana either.

Even if Butler hadn't improved, the Bulls dodge a bullet. Last years Jimmy>>>>Current Lance. Fortunately for the Hornets it's only a 3 yr deal.

I admit it - I was a huge Lance advocate this summer. *ducks*
