Doctors treating Miami Heat star forward Chris Bosh are concerned he may have developed a blood clot in his lung but are still waiting for tests to make a diagnosis, sources confirmed to ESPN.com.

The Miami Herald first reported on Friday that Bosh could miss the remainder of the season if he found to have blood clots in his lung.

The medication required to treat such a condition typically requires at least six months of limited physical activity.

Blood clots are always a serious condition but this is a particularly scary moment for Bosh and the NBA after former Portland Trail Blazers star Jerome Kersey died suddenly of a blood clot in his lung earlier this week.

I know he's not a popular player among many on this board but you hate to see that. I mean what a 24 hours for Miami; getting Dragic but then losing Bosh.

Bosh always my favorite out of the big 3. He's a good guy in his personal life and he always kills us on the court.

Wish nothing but the best for him.

what causes blood clots anyway? How do you prevent them

I hate to hear that. Bosh was the most likable of the former big 3. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Pulmonary embolisms are extremely dangerous. Glad they caught it if that is indeed what it is, otherwise it would have been tragic.

I rather laugh at him while he's on the court, not off of it. Get back soon, Bosh! Would love to beat him in the playoffs

I certainly don't wish any player harm and I wish him the best but I think this has to improve our seeding and remove Miami as a threat in the east, strictly on basketball terms.

Same here. I actually kind of like Bosh, given that he's not playing the Bulls that night.

Hope it's not as serious as expected...

I feel the same about Bosh and wish him the best. No doctor and no idea how to prevent blood clots but if there's one thing I know from the doctors that I do know, it's get yourself to the hospital anytime you have unexplained chest discomfort.

It varies. Some people are prone to them because of blood disorders. One of the main culprits is blood stasis, meaning people don't move around as much as needed, and their blood doesn't move as much, and so it forms clots. Usually starts in the legs, and migrates up to the lungs. This can commonly occur after a long plane ride or long road trip where someone may be sitting in one position for a long time.

Our seeding wasn't going to be in doubt even with their trade. Miami is too far behind to move too far unless the bottom falls out for the top 5 teams. It did however make a difference as to whether it's better for us to get the 2nd vs 3rd seed, but I do agree that it does remove them as a threat. I hate when it happens due to injury though. But no one felt sorry for us when we were battling injuries in the past

I had a blood clot in my lung a few years ago. Unimaginably painful. Makes a broken bone feel like a walk in the park. I had no real idea what it was until I was reading about it in a hospital and seeing that there is a 30% chance of death if left untreated. Not something to screw around with.

It is very surprising to see these athletes getting them though. Its not something a healthy young person should get. I was misdiagnosed at first because the doctors thought I was too young (which is why it got to be so bad for me).

I'm surprised that this is a question though. Once a doctor figured out I might have it, I was diagnosed in less than 2 hours via CT scan. If they aren't sure with Bosh, it must be so minor that it isn't showing up on tests well.

This is scary news. Hopefully they caught this quickly enough that it can be treated fairly easily and he can return to full health.

Wishing the best for Chris Bosh. He seems like a good guy.

Blood clots are extremely dangerous, thank god it didn't cause a stroke or heart attack, or even worse death. There is nothing more terrifying than blood clots and aneurysms.

I don't care for his game personally, but as a person he seems like one of the true class acts in the league, get well soon.
