Mike Dunleavy Jr

Post#1 » by TimRobbins » Sat Feb 21, 2015 5:31 am

Mike has been key for us up until his injury, providing 10ppg on great efficiency, shooting over 40% from 3, and even playing decent defense. He missed a lot of time with something defined as a "sprain" or "bone bruise" and since coming back (though a small sample) he's looked terrible on just about everything. He's lost some mobility and lift and he looks like he's still hurting.

The injury clearly wasn't something trivial and With MDJ being 34.5, I'm not sure he can get back to 100% this season. That's really the main reason I was advocating trading him for Afflalo, while others here were saying Afflalo wasn't enough of an upgrade. Maybe Afflalo wasn't enough of an upgrade over the MDJ who started the season, but I'm not sure that MDJ exists anymore, and without a competent SF in the rotation, we may as well call it a season.

The Afflalo trade should have gone down. I felt that was before the deadline and I feel even more strongly about it now.

that lil winning streak may have been the worst thing to happen. It put GarPax on morphine.

It wasn't only GarPax. There were a lot of people on this board who were assuming Dunleavy would come back to early season form, even though all the signs were there that the injury was much worse than reported. You can't assume that a 35 YO player would come back from an injury as easily as a 25 YO player.

Huh? How so? This is more than just the Afflalo trade, it's MDJ in general.

I have no issue with Mike

my issue is that any confidence that Snell had is going to go away because Thibs is going to keep such a short leash on him now wit Mike back and give mike more of the minutes when it should be the other way around same with Kirk

My favorite plan was to get Affalo and make MDJ come off the bench...would have been some excellent off the bench scoring. Then Snell happened and I was down to trade MDJ

To be fair, I think the Afflalo thread is locked.

Not just afflalo, Portland got Alonzo gee as well who is a solid defender and can hit the 3 (43% this year), all for a late 1st and a bunch of fillers.

Not trading for a wing was basically waiving the white flag IMO. GarPax knew MDJ would probably not be the same when coming back from injury. By standing pat, they basically gave up on the season.

Forgetting Afflalo and just focusing on MDJ, the Bulls are in a tough spot if MDJ doesn't come back strong.

They really need his shooting and overall solid play to space out the court.

He's only played in three games since returning from injury, but he's 4-17 overall, and 2-9 from the three point line. That's not going to get it done. That said, he had a long layoff, so I'm not yet panicked about his poor overall play.

If he's playing like this come April, the Bulls are in big trouble though.

Why would they surrender when some of these wings went for so cheap? We need to give MDJ some time to get back into shape and the flow of an NBA game; give McD some time to get back into shape; and give Snell some time to continue this rapid development.

Nothing is lost.

I don't know why. Maybe they don't believe in Thibs or this team. Maybe they didn't want to look bad when Afflalo bolts in the summer. All I know is that they didn't make a low cost move which would have helped us. I don't think the current roster can contend and I believe GarPax knew this.

Fair enough. It just doesn't make logical sense to me. I doubt GarPax didn't do their due diligence in order to find all possible moves, but maybe they're just poor negotiators.

Think the conclusion and rationales would have been the same regardless.

Bulls winning = We like our team

Bulls losing = Why would you risk future assets on a team not that close anyway.

GEEZUS H KRIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are only two people to blame for last night's loss, Derrick Rose who "couldn't find his game" and Thibs who - unsurprisingly couldn't be bothered to give Snell a full shot at continuing his hot shooting.

Oops, I forgot. This post belongs on page 101 of the one and only allowable Derrick Rose thread.
