OT: Knausgaard and Noah both hate Cleveland

Post#1 » by logical_art » Wed Feb 25, 2015 7:38 pm

When we drove out of Cleveland a few hours later, I was worried; I hadn’t seen anything yet that I could write about. To be able to describe something, you have to feel some kind of emotional attachment to it, however faint. The external has to awaken something within; nothing means anything in itself, it is the resonance it produces, in the soul and in the language, that gives meaning to the thing described. Cleveland meant nothing to me.

And yes, hating on a rivals city is a good coping mechanism.

Who doesn't? It's a trash city. Not Detroit or Houston bad, but it's up there.

Houston is bad? I have a bunch of engineering friends that work down there that say houston isn't that bad. Maybe I'm just misinformed.

I actually like Detroit. They have a good thing going on now with some real good/cool people trying to revitalize the city.

Cleveland is terrible though.
Okay Brand, Michael Jackson didn't come over to my house to use the bathroom. But his sister did.

Depends what you want. It's an anonymous city, like Atlanta and Dallas -- easy to forget where you are when you are there. It's generic America. But if you like America, hey that's great. I knew some Parisians who went to visit, they LOVED Houston. Refrigerated supermarkets, steakhouses, big-assed cars, everybody drives, wide streets. it was like being in a movie for them.

The bad parts of Detroit are probably worse, but Detroit has a lot of redeeming qualities. I'd much rather spend a weekend hanging out in Detroit than Cleveland.

It's hot, it smells (no joke, it actually smells like garbage), and the entertainment is virtually nothing.
