JaVale McGee?

He's expected to be bought out some time today according to WT. I'm sure someone here will know better than me how the salary on him would work and if we can get him for the minimum or not.

IF we can, what do you guys think?

I think we need more athleticism on this team and if we can get it at the expense of any players playing time it should definitely be Nazr...

We obviously could use the depth with the rather consistent injury situation we have here in Chicago.

I'd take a chance on a hungry athletic vet trying to prove himself even if he may be an idiot in many eyes...

Thoughts?

Why not? Gives the front court an athletic rim protector and somebody who can play above the rim. George Karl got some use out of him. Is he any worse than Kendrick Perkins? I don't think so.

With Mcgee, you'll actually get some good on both sides of the ball with the bad, compared to Scrubkins.

I think Shaqtin a Fool and getting bought out has really damaged his reputation in to scrub territory, but fact of the matter is he's a low-IQ player that can still be an impact player.

In the same way basketball-IQ is an asset to a player, so is pure physical ability, and in a limited role I think he's a big upgrade over Nazr.

Here's an example of what he can bring -

He's not a cancer, just a dumb player, but his length and athleticism makes him an inherently good rim protector and finisher. It's just up to whether Thibs would be willing to play him any minutes or not.

I am all for McGee, if it means Nazr is gone (I really wanted Perkins also so that Nazr is gone). this guy while being a complete dumbass, is freakishly athletic and can really cause havoc in defending the paint against opposing teams

If I were the GM, I'd take a flier on McGee, but I highly doubt the Bulls management would. He is the opposite of Bulls material at this point. And... Thibs really doesn't seem to like playing midseason acquisitions

Won't happen because their is a level of risk and this is the Chicago Bulls.

If the Sixers don't even want him, why would we?

Absolutely I'd sign him. He has the body to bang, and he's no question better than Nazr/Bairstow.

The Sixers want to lose. We have a different goal.

I don't know; when Taj comes back, having five bigs would probably lead to less playing time for Niko, or McGee just ending up as a waste of a roster spot.

Not sure how having a ridiculously athletic 7 footer as your 15th man hurts...

Not to mention McGee at 11 mil is a bit different to McGee on the min.

Obviously they'll still be paying him a lot of money, but buying him out isn't really a reflection of their opinion of him as a player. It was a financially motivated trade.

yes of course. But how is his attitude. Does he ruffle feathers. Seems unrealistic we would sign him. Its would overkill on our biggs, more talent than minutes but if niko plays the 3 more often than javelle would be the best 4th big in the league. He is a specialist guy, shot blocker, high percentage offense. (Dunks). Has value at both ends of the floor.

He passes the eye test from a physical/athletic standpoint, but I'm sure the analytics prove he is detrimental to winning basketball.

yeah. I would take him in a heart beat for the min if possible. Waive Bairstow and keep Nazr on the end of bench to teach McGee what being a pro is.... or better yet waive Nazr and hire him as a player development coach. You consolidate one player into two, get a servicable big man who is an athletic freak...

1- Rose, Nate Robinson, Aaron Brooks
2- Butler, Moore, Hinrich
3- Dunleavy, Snell, McDermott
4- Gasol, Gibson, Mirotic
5- Noah, McGee

Even as a long term plan, I don't think this is a bad move. We could trade Gibson and our 2016 draft pick for a starting caliber SF and...

1- Rose, Nate Robinson, Aaron Brooks
2- Butler, Snell, Moore
3- Acquisition, Dunleavy, McDermott
4- Gasol, Mirotic
5- Noah, McGee
