Famous pic of Dennis diving to save ball

It's one of the greatest pics in NBA history...he is parallel to the ground, flying like Superman. I just want to confirm...he risked life and limb for that ball, but it still went out of bounds right? I can't remember...

Yeah from memory still went out of bounds. I always loved that play/effort!

I love this post and I love this photo! This photo was taken at the fist Bulls game I ever went to. It was against the Warriors on my brothers birthday.

Absolutely loved Dennis and that squad. I still wear my red Bulls Rodman jersey to this day, along with my red Toni Kukoc jersey that I just got not long ago.

The intensity that Jordan, Rodman and Pippen brought to the floor every night will never be seen again. What a joy that team was to watch. Rodman was always intense, but MJ brought it out of him even more.

I guess it's OT but I always thought soccer would be cool if the goal was about 4' wider and 2' higher. Obviously soccer purist hate that idea.
In high school I played and was a big fan of indoor soccer. Mostly liked it because of the speed of the game, but the higher scores were good bonus too.

He was iverson before Iverson. Didn't practice much and always a headcase off the court,but played as hard and gritty as anybody in the league. On the court he was a pax/Skiles type of player!

how would 4' wider work on penalty kicks? would the goalie stand a chance?

Speaking of practice, I'm reminded of this cool story quoted from Isiah Thomas. Yeah I know the man is a hack, but this is still very interesting though I think some of you might already have read it before.
“We were standing in the lay-up line, warming up and shooting, and Rodman was standing back and watching everybody shoot. I said, ‘Hey, come on, you have to participate; everybody’s shooting lay-ups, you have to shoot lay-ups, too.’ And he said, ‘I’m just watching the rotations on the basketball.’ I said, ‘Excuse me?’ He said, ‘Like, when you shoot, your ball spins three times in the air. Joe’s sometimes has 3 1/2 or four times.’
“That’s how far Rodman had taken rebounding, to a totally different level, like off the charts. He knew the rotation of every person that shot on our team — if it spins sideways, where it would bounce, how often it would bounce left or right. He had rebounding down to a science, and I never heard anyone think or talk about rebounding and defense the way he could break it down.
“When you talk about basketball IQ, I’d put Rodman at a genius level.”

To me, it's the greatest sports photo ever. It's really inspirational. Lesson: Go for it and go all out. The fact that he didn't get the ball but still succeeded in a way just adds to the mystique.
It's been a while since I've been to a game now that I no longer live in Chicago but when I used to go to games they would show an intro video montage of Bulls players/coaches from Johnny Red Kerr days to the present team. At the crescendo of the song, they would show the slow motion video of that Rodman dive and the crowd would get pumped up. Do they still do that?

Phil Jackson coached Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Kobe Bryant, and Shaquille O'Neal.
He said the best athlete he ever coached was Dennis Rodman.
Sam Smith wrote that for his first summer league with the Pistons, he averaged 36. Points per game, not total. The guy was a far more capable scorer than he showed but wanted to be a rebounder & defender.
