OT: Terrorist attacks in Paris

Sad, sad, sad....

I started this thread to reach out to the Bulls fans/family in France or from France.

My condolences to you. i hope that you and your loved ones are safe and sound and that the hostage crisis is resolved with minimal loss to the hostages lives.

Just a terrible day. This one hits home hard because its coming so soon after Charlie Hebdo.

Praying for the people in Paris. A beautiful city that I've enjoyed time in and they don't need this. It's beyond sad.

I will truly never understand what people think terrorism will actually accomplish other than the killing of innocent people. ISIS just needs to be wiped out ASAP.

I am slowly and sadly coming to the point where I have to evolve on my position towards Islam.

Mainstream Islam needs to reclaim its place back and take away ANY and ALL power that the crazies have. This isnt a splinter group anymore - this is a serious threat to a large region of the world, if not the entire world.

I don't think it's that simple. The extremists might as well be their own religion at this point and no longer can it all be called "Islam". The actual religion is beautiful and just fine (like most other major religions). A sub-group has destroyed the true principles. And I'm not a Muslim (I'm a non-practicing Lutheran) but I've studied the history of many religions. And absolutely, they're a big risk to the entire world. It's sad, and it's scary. And I'm very grateful to live pretty far away in the US. Not that I'm "safe" here, but it's a lot farther away than Europe is. I just feel for those affected.

100 years ago there was a strong movement in the ME for secular, modern & progressive forms of Islam. Unfortunately it didn't take, now this regressive form of Islam is much more politically popular.

I think your post is a lot more succint and makes the same point I am trying to make.

Truly sad day for those affected by this. Condolences to all of those that have lost family and friends to such nonsensical violence. Mankind is truly a frightening monster. It's unfortunate, but this isn't something that will end in my, or even my unborn grandchildrens lifetime. Far too many issues within the human psyche to simply target those that bring such violence upon the general public. Bombs, drones, boots on the ground, they all bring diminishing returns in a war on terror. They all also add to the growing number of disenfranchised youths growing up in these hot zones, victims to propaganda. It's a never ending cycle. Crazy will always be crazy.

I feel really terrible about the hostages.

In India, in Kenya - there were no hostages. They were just killed until the last terrorist was shot dead.

I really hope that the special ops folks just take down the terrorists even if it means risking a few hostages lives. Otherwise, I fear the worst,

It's scary when they can afford to pay and recruit impressionable and poor young men by brainwashing them and "offering" them attractive (and disgusting in some cases) things. We saw this in Germany in the 1930's. The world is just a very different place now.

Surely that "victory" will be used as reasoning for this attack, but these psychopaths would have found some other reasoning for such an attack regardless.

Just a disgusting act. For a secondI felt a sense of relief that this didn't happen in the US, but then I remembered that we do this to ourselves on a regular basis in our universities and high schools.

Horrifying and very sad. I went to the American University of Paris for one year and I loved living in that city. It's scary to realize that no matter how prepared you think you are, nowhere is totally safe from these attacks.

I saw that the President of France is ordering the borders closes, and I wonder if other European countries will close their borders to the refugees that have been flowing in from Syria and other countries over the past weeks and months, to try and keep any possible terrorists from getting into their countries.

My thoughts go out to all the people of Paris as well as to anyone on this board who may have friends or family there.
Just a few years ago, ISIS was this tiny splinter group that few people had heard of. It's frightening to see how large and dangerous it has become (ISIS hasn't claimed responsibility for these attacks, but the news reporters seem to be operating on the theory that they are the group behind these attacks).
