Yup, and in the 70's and a good part of the 80's, most people had the 3 major networks (2, 5 and 7 here in Chi) a couple UHF channels (32 and 44 here in Chi- we also had WGN on the main dial). The rating were actually from boxes select families actually had attached to their TV's. There isn't even any way to really quantify how many people were watching these days. I would imagine 42 million is really only about half of the actual viewers.

I still maintain that it was the most watched baseball game ever. Globally, when you add in people watching on phones, tablets, computers... or how about in "sports bars", a relatively newer thing. Back in those days, people didn't gather in giant drinking establishments like BWW's or others to watch games. How do they get counted?

Agree. Ratings are very flawed.

Wish I could go back to the beginning of this season and put some money on the cubbies...

I had invites to a couple of parties, one at a buddies just down the street from Wrigley. He's the eternal Cub fan, single bachelor with money who shelled out to live in the hood. Totally the place I wanted to be last night, would have been right in the thick.

But my 9yr old son asked me to stay home and watch the game with him.

So of course I did.

and glad I did because when CLE tied it in the 9th he completely lost it. like 9yr old with a panic attack. my wife is telling me she's going to vomit, and my kid is screaming, crying, shouting words i didn't know he even knew.

I'm like of course, this is SO CUB, what else did I expect.......

My wife is like you gotta calm him down. So I gave him the speech about how I've told him for years that you don't want to be a cub fan. I've been telling him to be a Yankees fan, be a Cardinals fan. Being a Cub fan is tough and this is exactly why.

I think it's one of the first speeches/life lessons he listed to me and was like 'they can still win can't they?" and I'm like of course but probably not tonight so maybe go to bed. It's a rain delay, I'll wake you up if they win.

He goes upstairs, then comes back down a min later and sits next to me and is like 'you know I don't care, i'm gonna be a Cubs fan so we can watch them win or lose together, like we do with the Bulls'

not more than 5 minutes later they started playing again, rallied and won the freakin World Series!

He then gets pulled for walking a guy with 2 outs and nobody on. The walk was B.S. too given that he got the batter looking on strike 3 but the ump called it a ball. Hendricks IMO could've gone 7-8 strong innings. Instead he gets pulled at less than 5.

Luckily Maddon got bailed out by the team!

As a rabid Bulls fan, I can say that this Cubs World Series has topped any of the MJ lead Bulls championships. Its just an entirely different level for me. Maybe its my age, but last night was epic.

Congrats to the Cubs and to the City, I am no where near a Cubs fan but I envy the way that organization is run and maintained.

Man that's so **** awesome I'm glad you got to have that moment.

I'm not sure that most people had electricity or indoor plumbing the last time this happened.

I never would have fathomed that I'd return to being much of a baseball fan after fading away from following it my whole adult life. But I can honestly say the Cubbies are probably my #2 now over the Bears (and baseball over football too) behind the Bulls. It's a game and a culture with more dignity than football. Just got to find a way to get Joe Buck out of there.

Bulls are my lifeblood, no doubt this Cubs World Series is bigger.

Im not a big football or hockey guy so i might be off on this assumption, but if i had to rank championships in American sports for city's it would be: Football>Baseball>Basketball>Hockey

Now that it's a day later, I think overall I am really glad they won. I'm annoyed at the couple dozen fake-ass Cub fans blowing up my facebook feed. But one of my best buddies changed his picture to a candid shot of him with tears of joy as he was being hugged by some supportive Cardinals fans. That article about the 70ish guy who drove a few states to listen to the game at his father's gravesite made my room get all dusty for awhile. Stories like ATRAIN's are just incredible - I need to And-1 every post you make for a month, dude, that was such a great story.

And now I can have some good banter with those die-hard Cubs fans without them worrying I'll pull the Someday, Guys! card. And now that you guys have had your moment, if you can go ahead and catastrophically collapse so my Cards aren't in 2nd place the next 5 years, that'd be great! Is baseball back yet?

Wow. I'm a bigger Bulls fan than Cubs fan due to MJ and growing up playing basketball in HS and College. MJ's Titles were bigger to me than last night's incredible game 7. The W was more special though because my sons were into it and my Dad was facetiming in.

Funny how I was thinking about this very thing this morning.

The image of Jordan laying on the floor, crying while holding the trophy was unreal. One of my greatest sporting memories, but even that isn't close to me compared to last night.

Winning with the GOAT on your team versus winning with a bunch of young pups that broke a curse. Its just different. Who knows though. Im older now and have enjoyed this ride through my eyes and my 5 year old sons eyes. Being a father changes things and maybe i just cherish it more than i did watching MJ win titles while being hammered in Chicago bars. Ill never forget Rizzo's Anchorman quote, his OMG face after Zobrists double, Bryants "s" eating grin on his face as he made the final out., coming back from 3-1 and slaying their best pitchers. Its just legendary stuff.

Both great times though. I just know I have a cherished memory with my son now, where with the Bulls i have memories of ladies flashing their goods in the streets. Again, both good times, i just like the one with my son better.
