Wade thread #2; Update: Press Conference info page 9

Do you expect him to be better than Jimmy last year or our best this season?
Do you expect him to be better than Pippen was in his last season as a Bull in 1998?
Or even close to MJ was in 1998?

No, because Wade isn't much of a two way player anymore - maybe a bit more effort in postseason.

Offensively Wade has a smaller chance to equal Jimmy based on getting the weaker wing defender each night on him. But his efficiency is slipping a lot the last 2 years, so not high chance.

Do you expect him to be better than Pippen was in his last season as a Bull in 1998?

Same with Jimmy, Pip was still a super defender even heading out of his prime.

Or even close to MJ was in 1998?

No. Jordan in 1998 was still a 25 PER player (28 PER in playoffs!), with decent efficiency. Which was about 5 points off his peak and prime PER.

Wade is now about a 20 PER player, and if you look at his last 4 years, he seems to be losing on average about a 1 PER a season, off from 26 PER when he was 30 years old.

Their decline rates are similar and in accordance with most career arcs, just Michael was so much better at his best, his head start from declining kept him retaining that gap over other aging stars.

Unless Wade was slacking big time in Miami, there is little reason to think he'd have such a huge bounceback season, especially as our spacing will be bad, and we're gonna have to work really hard for clean open looks and lanes.

Wade hasn't been at those levels recently. Even saying these things is setting the guy up to be a disappointment. The last time he even sniffed Bulls-MJ levels of production was years ago.

I would like to see:
- 20 PER on reduced volume but higher efficiency
- Him work off ball like he did with Lebron
- Him run the offense at times next to Butler and frequently when Butler is resting on the bench
- Not a defensive dynamo but not a turnstyle either and to see him ratchet up the D during critical times

If you get that, his signing would be a wild success and the Bulls could push for around 50 wins.

45 excellent regular season games. Two rounds of playoffs.

That's my Dwayne Wade benchmark.

Also, I expect an All-Star appearance from 2 Chicago Bulls this season.

Might see his efficiency shoot up since he's not the number 1 option on offense and Butler should ease the scoring burden off him.

I'd say around a 20 per and maybe an all star appearance if we win games.

Can our training staff even keep this guy healthy is what I'm worried about as much as his play.

If we can't then the Kobe mention above, might sadly not be far off.

We have completely new training staff. They have credit unless proven otherwise.

I want Wade to be our back-up PG or him/Jimmy can share the responsibility while Rondo is sitting. Will allow Doug to play more SF.

I think Wade was holding back like Peyton was until he got to Denver.

It's still Wade and he can still play. Would not be surprised to see him start in the all-star game since it is fan voted.

This is what I like to see Fred do when Rondo is resting. And especially if the backup pg is not counting play Wade some at the one to go alongside with Valetine and Doug. What I like to see is one of the starters stay on the floor with the 2nd unit at all times and his is one of the ideals I like to see.

If he puts up numbers similar to his rookie season (16-4-5) on good efficiency I'll be happy.

It's very possible that even with Wade here, Niko will be our second best scorer.

Jimmy: 22-5-5
Niko: 19-8
Wade: 17-4-4
Rondo: 10-6-11

^This is roughly what I expect the numbers to look like. I'm just praying these guys can shoot a decent 3pt%

This is gonna be about what it was like when we signed George Gervin at the end of his career. Decent contribution but not star level anymore. The rest of the team is gonna have to really step up.

That he:
Makes them better
Can mentor young players
Can be an example to F/As, "hey, it doesn't suck here"
Can be that locker room guy
Can be the conduit between Hoiberg and the players
Can show guys how to win

Just recruit a star. Don't care what his numbers are.

Heat Fan here crashing your boards. Allow me to weigh in on what you can expect.

1. Wade has not been holding back. Don't expect him to become the star he once was. Some games, he will be. But he does have another level he can go to in the 4th quarter and in the playoffs. He will want to prove himself to the Chicago fans, so I can guarantee you he will be going all out for you guys.

3. His defense is not great, but it's not bad either. I would even say it's underrated at this point. I think the Heat were a better defensive team with him off the court (for whatever +/- numbers are worth, which I take with a huge grain of salt). BUT -- in the fourth quarters, he will all of the sudden lock people down, get steals, and blocks shots.

4. He'll work just fine with Butler. I imagine he'll probably share a similar scoring load with him, probably average 19 a game like this year. I think he will adapt to Rondo as well. People generally don't realize that Wade is a very good off-ball player -- he isn't a 3pt shooter, but he is still one of the best cutters in the league, so hopefully Rondo will be able to work with that.

5. For those of you worried about the Chicago training staff keeping him healthy, my impression is that Wade has used his own training staff rather than the regular Heat trainers. I could be wrong about that, but I would not expect he will be solely relying on Chicago's training staff to keep healthy.

6. Most annoying thing is when he doesn't get back on defense and is yelling at the refs after a missed call. He has actually better at this last year though, I think.

7. The biggest thing is that he probably brings the greatest competitive spirit and leadership qualities you've had since MJ. Heat without Bosh and Whiteside last playoffs were dead in the water. When things started to collapse, everybody seemed to cave except Wade. He willed them to EC semi-finals and to 7 games each series. It is going to be great for Butler and all the others to be playing with him.

Bottom line is this is a better move than a lot of the media is giving credit to the Bulls for. This isn't Kobe recovering from an achilles injury on a farewell tour. Wade's got a couple more years playing at a high level. Best of luck to you guys next season.
