Slippage on one end might not be a big deal if the the team is doing great on the other end and thus still outscoring opponents by a large margin. Moreover, looking at the rankings could be misleading - even late in the season - because teams could be bunched closely together.

For example, let's take a hypothetical team that's third in scoring at 110 points per 100 possessions and sixth in defense, allowing 101 points per 100 possessions. Let's say the team has a game where it keeps up its scoring rate on offense but gives up a lot of points and its points allowed dips to 101.5 points per 100 possessions. There are a lot of teams bunched up next to each other in the points allowed ranking so this moderate drop causes the team to slip five spots in the ranking. It might seem like a major fluctuation that the team went from being ranked third and sixth to third and 11th. But the scoring margin only dropped from 9 points per 100 possessions to 8.5 points per 100 possessions, which would have a relatively minor effect on how many games the team is projected to win. Perhaps it means that the team is now projected to win 59 rather than 60 games. (Of course, there could be teams bunched up in terms of point differential and, ultimately, wins, which could mean that by winning one or two fewer games, the team's playoff seed drops by a few spots.)

Extreme corner cases excepted naturally. Point differential is a better predictor than your off/def ranks, I would agree, my comment should be taken as associating with all those related metrics. Main point being, 16 games doesn't mean much for predicting your season. In 2011 we started 9-8, then won the most in the league. Last year we started 11-5, barely ended over .500.

Sure, though if you're going to get into won-loss record, it's important to note that point differential tends to be a lot more predictive than record. For instance, last season if you look at the Bulls 11-5 start, you would've projected them as a 56-win team. However, if you looked at their scoring margin at that point in the season, you would have far more accurately projected them as a 44-win team.

I have had one as well, and I honestly didn't think it was that big of a deal. Not nearly as painful as people make it out to be.

Root Canal/tooth issue probably means he hasn't been eating or sleeping well the last few days either.

This is where you don't want to risk injury with him. It's not worth it.
We can beat LA without him. They are coming off a back to back and got spanked by NO last night. late flight in - they should be leery and were pretty well rested.

Lu's gotta come in here and be laughing at GarPax with that 70mil deal in his pocket and will probably score 40.
but NO Russell or Swaggy P. This should be a W. Won't be a blowout but we should control this game from the tip.

always exciting when LA comes to town!

Personally, I had my wires removed from my mouth after having my mouth wired shut for about 40 days. 10 days later I had the root canal and a deep cleaning of my teeth(which is when the scrape the underneath of your gums clean) all done on the same day. For me, it really wasn't to bad.

I've had root canal pain so bad that I had to get an emergency procedure done at 7 am just so I could actually fly for a vacation. Granted, after the procedure the pain is basically gone but everyone reacts differently.

Do I know you? I've had multiple teeth pulled and a root canal done at once.

Damn lol. I'm thankful I had didn't have it that rough. I also had my wisdom teeth pulled and played in a game the next day and I hear people who say they take off work and do nothing for a few days after they get that done.

4 back to backs in DEC. Wade should sit all of them. Jimmy probably 2 of them.

We need Dougie back... badly.

Val will get his shot this month to show us what he's got.

Man I am ready for some Bulls basketball. Last Friday's game vs. Philly wasn't televised where I live (which is ridiculous as I am in IL less than 90 minutes from the city), so it feels like it's been forever since I've seen these guys get at it.

I had to do this a couple weeks ago, and it sucks. If he had to get a dental implant, he's not feeling too good.

That said, Duncan Keith lost like 6 teeth mid game and came back in...buck up Dwayne!

Hockey players are use to having their teeth knocked out. It's like getting a haircut for them :D

Chuck Garfien posted video of Wade taking threes warming up. He said Wade looks optimistic that he'll play tonight.
