Waiver wire options
Trey Burke, Archie Goodwin, Brandon rush... others... anyone interest you guys? I feel like we could use pieces with high ceiling to develop. Why not take a flyer one one of these guys over payne?

Re: Waiver wire options
This is a good thread because the Bulls could get help in several ways.
yes there must be a backup PG who would be better than Payne to be behind Dunn and Grant. Sure Brandon Rush is 32, and the Bulls can cut him next year when he's 33.
They could also get backup 2 or 3 who could spread the floor.
But look at the Cavs releasing Kendrick Perkins and the Bucks Joel Anthony. They may not be much but would they be good enough to split time with Felicio which would allow them to listen to offers for Lopez? I've maintained that they won't trade Lopez because they wouldn't have another center.
So here are two short term solutions to that, they aren't what they used to be but they only really need to play less than half the game. Felicio starts one of them would backup and Portis plays in match up to a small lineup.
They could trade Lopez and get a 1st and take back a contract.

I’d be interested in picking up PJ Dozier. Seemed to be the real deal in the tournament. However, could have been a fluke or a team like Dallas wouldn’t have released him.

I'd give Archie Goodwin a definite look.

Re: Waiver wire options
Waive Payne for Trey Burke. Yeah Trey Burke isn’t very good but he’s still better than Payne.

I'm a huge UofM fan, and I don't want Trey.
Goodwin may be ok if we can dump Payne or Stone.

Re: Waiver wire options
I would give Goodwin a look as athletic wing and Payton II as defensive guard. Both this guys need to learn shoot basketball. But they have tools to give them a chance. Release Payne and maybe Eddie or Stone for one or both of them.

Re: Waiver wire options
Before preseason I would have said dump Archie for someone like Kay Felder as a 3rd PG. Heck, I'd still take Kay now, keep Archie on his 2 way contract after he played relatively well, and dump Payne instead.

Re: Waiver wire options
IMO, forget Burke, forget Goodwin, etc. - these are guys I would've asked for in the past, but they've had ample opportunity to work on their potential and they haven't capitalized. A guy like Goodwin who to me was once a raw but potential filled athlete is now just a super flawed fringe-NBAer in my eyes.
From the names I've seen mentioned, I like PJ Dozier and Kay Felder.
Dozier is 20, athletic, and has a good feel for the game, can handle the ball pretty well, just needs to work on his jumper. Very positionally versatile, I think he's 6'6 with a 7 foot wingspan. Think he had 14 in his last pre-season game for the Mavs as well.
Felder I probably lean even more to, he's the complete package skill-set wise outside of his height, and we're seeing more and more undersized PG's succeed in this league. It's natural he didn't get a chance on a contending team as a 2nd rounder. I like him more the Payne, let's bring him in.

Still can't understand how Goodwin hasn't been able to find a spot in this league yet. From the few times I've seen him play, he looks like a quality player.

Re: Waiver wire options
Always wanted Archie Goodwin in the past, doubly so b/c I'm a big Nero Wolfe fan. I agree with Gimme that he's had ample chances, but so had Gerald Green before he finally became a pretty good NBA player at around age 26. I wouldn't bet on Goodwin at even odds, but at a low cost he has a high potential return. With a team like ours, which is supposed to bad for a while, why not take a chance on that kind of guy?

Re: Waiver wire options
Unless the FO cuts a guarunteed contract, I don't think they have a roster spot open.
I'm not sure if the FO would do that. Maybe with Pondexter.
