Grade the Chicago Bulls Season 2017-18

What grade would you give the Bulls for the Regular Season?

Obviously it was a season of rebuild and tanking..there were definitely some ups and downs in the season. The most positive aspect of the season was finding a core player in Lauri Markkanen. The downfall was late 3 game win streak/win streak when Nikola was here that hurt our lottery chances. Nonetheless, the Bulls finished with the 6th best odds. Between C/D for me, I'll give them a grade of C being the most optimistic.

At first it was an A because the tank was strong.
Then Niko came back and the grade dropped to a C-.
Then the Bulls traded Niko and the grade went up to a B+.
Then Bobby Portis, Lopez and Holiday were winning us too many games so the grade dropped to a C
Then the Bulls were in danger of falling to the 9th-10th pick so the grade went to a D-
Then the Bulls won that coin flip and seem to be picking 6 or higher so the tentative final grade as of now is a B+

F... PERIOD we know we weren’t close to being a playoff team we failed to secure as many lottery balls as possible.

We failed to run a offense that got Lauri 15 shots a game.We barely ran any plays for him at all.

I would say a D. They won way too many games with our core guys not even being responsible for most of them. Would've been an F if we were still 9th pick like we were with 4 games left in the season

Interesting poll results so far-25% for B, C, D, and F. No majority so far...

They were awful. By design or not that gets you an F in my book. Here's hoping for C+ or better going forward....

I'd say about a c-. Finding Nwaba and even Vonleh and Kilpatrick, and seeing the emergence of Valentine and Portis this year were pluses. Seeing a future star in Markannan is a plus. Seeing Lopez and Holiday hit career highs was good. Not seeing nearly enough of Dunn and Lavine is a big minus. Felicio was a huge minus. So overall about a c-.

Great summary of my thoughts

If the Bulls do, you would be complaining to much to ever hear it.

NBA fan logic we need to trade one of two best players because (Player X) one needs to shine more.

B

But I’m still including the Jimmy trade as part of this season which I give a solid A.

If I start at game 1, it’s a C. If we jump to top 3, it gets an A.

I still give it a D- and because I can't, I went with F. The games were unwatchable. Lauri was not the focal point of the offense. They only get the D- because they did what they had to the last 4 games and at least got into a tie for 6/7. But, I can't give them any credit for winning the coin flip against BKN.

Kind of funny that all the bad grades are because they weren't bad enough.

Coin flip against SAC, but I hear ya! I think them doing whatever they needed to do to lose those crucial 2 BKN games is what got them the D instead of the F. They even got Asik on the court!

I feel this. But we had a couple of guards who have awful playmaking ability for others. It wasn’t about the plays.

Further Lauri did actually get 15.4 FGA per 36 which is the proper measure and pretty strong volume for a rookie.

I wanted more focus on Lauri from his teammates, but by and large he had a pretty good developmental rookie season. I’ve seen abysmal misuse of rookies under several Bulls coaches, but not Fred.

Well that was the point of all this, no?

If you offered up the entire board a tank season that only results in the 6th lottery position before the start of the season, how many people are signing up for that?

I think an explanation is unnecessary. This one's pretty obvious.

F .. The goal was to tank and have the best chance at the top pick. Otherwise, what was the point of not trying to win. They picked a lane but they couldn't overcome the tank competition.

Lauri's usage under Lavine is concerning to me.

I'd love to see Lauri's splits playing with Zach and then without him. Lauri's strong finish may have had something to do with no Lavine.

Solid C. Could have been worse, but should have been better. Top 3 pick odds better at the minimum.
