Bulls have a lot of money...who will we go after? Jabari? Will Barton? Wilson Chandler?

There's tons of good bigs available, but now we dont need one.

I don't see us doing much. Stay the course at this point, and let the young core continue to grow. Only way I see us spending big is if Zach walks, which is highly unlikely.

I really want us to absorb bad deals for future picks-expiring preferred but I would take on 2 year deals for a high enough price.

We have Asik, Holiday, Lopez expiring next summer, plus decisions on Grant, Payne and Portis. We will have a lot of cap space. Then, we will still have max space in 2020 for a run at AD

The draft last night clarified and re-emphasized the Bulls need for dynamic wing players and possibly a star point guard. Unless Carter quickly proves to be an all-time bust, it is unlikely the Bulls will be either in the center or power forward market next off-season.

Unless the Bulls do something crazy with LaVine's contract and/or extend Portis to a big money deal, the Bulls will have at least $60 to $65 million to play around with next off-season. The more challenging thing is that both LA teams and Brooklyn, among others, will have similar space.

The list of available free agents in areas of need and their ages:

The draft is also apparently weaker next year, but decently strong with wings. RJ Barrett and Sekou Doumbouya are two of the bigger names. Atlanta and Brooklyn seem like the only sure fire tankers, so the opportunity would be there. But it seems like that tanking would make it less likely to net one or two high impact free agents. But can this organization plan on that anyway?

Anyway, what do you think we should all do? What are we hoping for. I am personally hoping for a run at the eighth seed because it means Lauri really developed and puts us in a better position to get a big free agent.

I definitely don't like anything hinging on 2019. I'd rather convert those expiring contracts out another year in exchange for some future draft capital. Try to move Portis too for future capital. Then consider a 2020 FA run.

Chicago needs to be done with tanking for draft picks. The price comes too high beyond the first year. Going forward there are other instruments that work better.

I say they absorb expiring deals in July and get future picks. Maybe trade Portis and possibly valentine too.

Then, go into 2019 with a solid young core and our 2019 pick, and TONS of cap space. Unless it's a top FA, do the same thing again. All those terrible 2016 deals will still be on the books-eat a few more for future assets, and go into the 2020 FA with a very good young core and space for AD

PG- Vanfleet(would be great off the bench), Rondo(We all know what he does but doubt both sides do this again) Thomas( doubtful unless Paxson goes crazy says fk it and decides to go for it lol)

SF - Barton( coming off of a terrific season,is a solid scoring option) Hood ( he’s just solid,only for the right price and one year deal) Jerami Grant( team does need defense) Deng ( if he finally gets bought out could be a good vet presence.

Save the cap space to absorb a contract for assets. As long as the contract runs out by 2020 at the latest.

Let's see, with realistic contracts this summer and no long term new deals for FA

Lavine-$15 miilion (front load his deal this summer)
Dunn-5.3
Lauri-5.3
Carter-4.5
Hutch-2
Nwaba-4.5 (I like him a lot, front load his deal too (3 years/$14 million)
Valentine-3.4 (I want to deal him this summer, but let's assume he stays)
Felicio-8.2 (wow)
Asik-$1 million after buyout is stretched
2019 pick-let's say 3
Portis cap hold-7.5 (I also want to trade him this summer, but assume he stays)

If the cap goes to $108 million, that leaves us with about $50 million to play with. Not enough for 2 top FA's, but close. We deal Felicio, another contract and our 2019 pick and now we have 2 max spaces.

Therefore, this summer we should NOT take on anything more than expiring deals for future picks, and role with all the talent we have. We could easily add Irving and Butler and role into 2019 with

Irving/Dunn
Lavine/Irving
Butler/Hutch
Lauri/Portis
Carter/Portis

That team could easily win the East. Or of course we hold out until 2020 and take on some terrible 2016 deals for more future picks

Not going to happen. We need to take the long road.

I do love me some Will Barton.

Optimistically, we'll only need 1 FA.

That said, I am more convinced that a 1+1 deal with Lavine is coming. If so, and if he sucks, you can let him walk and have space.
