We're about to find out just how good the Warriors are without Durant.. I think he's out for the rest of the playoffs. I think they've been hiding the extent of his injury but he isn't coming back. We'll see, but the story keeps changing... now he'll be re-evaluated in a week? We've heard that song and dance before. Warriors are going to have to do it without him again. I'm betting on it and I'm betting they're still standing at the end regardless.

I think it will be really interesting how the league remembers Durant if the Warriors win this one without him in the ECF, Finals, and last game and a half against Houston.

I think there would be a knee jerk reaction to devalue him considerably more than is reasonable.

I also wonder if it would impact his summer decision any. I'm rooting for him to leave the Warriors, because while I think the Warriors may still contend if he goes, it will certainly be a much more interesting NBA.

So far, that's "really good". They're 3-0. I think it's going to be awfully hard for Portland to come back from a 2-0 deficit. It's like 80% against teams that have to do that.

Maybe it's unfair West bias, but I still don't think the Raps/Bucks are going to be able to hang with the Warriors.

MJ's career playoff usage % was higher than Bron's, and in '92 and '93 his playoff usage numbers were higher than any playoff year ever for Bron.

(Only relevant if you read the last page of the previous thread.)

I agree with all of this. If they do win again without him, I think the word in the Bay will be that the Warriors are just more fun without him and. . "look they still just won another championship without him".

So, he'll leave.. they'll still be contenders and like Doug just said the NBA will become more interesting for it.

Agreed, unless you super value a few extra rebounds/assists vs efficiency and points, which probably no one would.

and yet he was much MUCH more efficient and his teams were winning crazily. There is a difference :P. I was not arguing against high usage for the sake of lower usage... I was arguing against high usage that is a detriment to the team. Did MJ ever have 40% usage for a series with a less than 48 TS% and lost the series?

That was a different era for offense. The 3 pt proliferation has changed everything. Almost everyone can shoot a 3 nowadays and that means high usage by one player is a negative. It is just not shooting 3s but also players can dribble and shoot unlike a Korver. LeBron's usage is too much for this era even if you consider his teammates are average on offense.

There's probably some grey area. Durant is one of the best players and scorers ever. His presence afforded Curry some nights to not be historically great to win titles. On the flip side, Durant joined a 73 win team, which was a clear shortcut to championships.

It's probably done his all-time rank more bad than good. Steph is going to be remembered better.

Funny, a see way more people talking about KD as the best player in detriment of Curry.

Yeah I think Durant's presence really made people forget how great Curry is. I mean we are talking about a two-time back-to-back League MVP.... And with KD hurt we're seeing just how great Curry can be when it really matters. The big shots and big plays he makes are just amazing.

If you rank them individually, Durant is the better player. But, Curry's game fits the Warriors or for that matter any team because what he does has never been done, IMO. What Durant does is has been done by a lot of superstars in the past...there is some idea on how to contain it. It is just impossible to stop Curry....he can make opposition killer shots from every spot on the court. He doesn't need a favorite spot.

KD may be better for a 1 on 1 game. For a team, I would pick Curry any time on any team.

Even as a big POR fan, I don't think the Blazers will be much test of the Warriors w/o Durant. The Blazers are a spent team depleted by fatigue and injuries. Guys are suiting up through injuries they'd be DNP'd for in the regular season at this point.

The Finals will at least be interesting. Regular season doesn't mean much, but GS was collectively only 1 for 4 vs TOR/MIL combined.

If Durant is out for the Finals, the best player on the floor will definitively be from the EC.

Well, here we go... just saw this...

Kerr: KD injury 'more serious than we thought'

"Hopefully he continues to progress, and he has made progress but it's a little more serious than we thought at the very beginning," Kerr said after the Warriors' 114-111 Game 2 victory. "So we'll see where it all goes, but he's in there all day long getting treatment. He's done a great job of committing himself to that process. [Warriors director of sports medicine and performance] Rick [Celebrini] and his staff are in there all day, and hopefully he'll be back at some point, but we'll just wait and see."

Durant, who hasn't played since he strained his calf in the third quarter of the Warriors' Game 5 win over the Houston Rockets in the conference semifinals, won't travel with the team to Portland, Oregon, for Games 3 and 4, Warriors president of basketball operations Bob Myers told NBC Bay Area in a pregame appearance.

I wouldn't bring KD back in this series unless Portland was able to tie it up. As long as GS is ahead, you have the luxury to rest him.

That's too bad. He had quietly carved out a nice career after not meeting his potential. Was pretty solid in the playoffs too. Wonder what he was taking.
