Boylen out there recruiting! This was probably just a friendly dinner but I’m sure him coming back came up in the conversation. Also it’s good to know that Jimmy- Boylen have a positive relationship.

Is this even a possibility though?, do bulls have enough cap space to sign Jimmy?

So he's willing to take, like, a $10 million annual paycut to play for the team that traded him and that he supposedly hates?

It's possible to give him his max with some capspace maneuverings. Hopefully Bulls FO is up for it.

Meh. They're supposedly pals or whatever. I'd love him back but obviously that's pretty far fetched. I suppose we would run out a "positionless" line up of:

Butler
Lavine
OPJ
Lauri
WPJ

It would be fun to watch I admit.

I don't know how we move that much space without dumping positive assets as sweetener. Regardless, I have no doubt that Butler has no interest in returning to the Bulls at this time.

Granted, I've given this virtually no thought, nor plan to, but if someone else wants to answer this question I'm all ears: How do we create max capspace or Butler while keeping Lavine and Porter?

If there was a way to get him back while maintaining the young core, that would be great. Because then we'd have the best of both worlds in the sense that we'd have Butler, and also be able to surround him with the type of young, talented core we could have never acquired if we'd never traded him in the first place (which was the reason trading him was such a great idea).

yeah positive assets would have to go out to dump Dunn/Felicio/blakeney/valentine (Felicio could be stretched). I would part with 2nd rounders or future #1. If we got jimmy, a solid PG and fill out the bench we should be back in the playoffs so future draft picks are less valuable.

Whether Jimmy comes back or not, Boylen was criticized/made fun off exceedingly. If Jim Boylen was an assistant from San Antonio, people would be jumping all over the place to hire him. I feel he is a better leader than he is given credit for and a major upgrade over Hoiberg who was a milquetoast.

Boylen has relationships in the league like Thibs had. He will have his weaknesses but IMO, a player like Jimmy would respect Boylen more than a Hoiberg. An NBA coach's primary responsibility is to get respect from his star players and then rest of the things like offense/defense/rotations happen.

There is a difference between letting a star player run the team and at the same time getting respect from him. Tyrone Lue let Lebron control a lot but still had his respect. Meanwhile, Hoiberg lost control with Jimmy/Wade.

"Capspace maneuvering" isn't very specific. What do you have in mind?

EDIT: Nevermind, you meant the post at the link. If that works, I'm all for it. Seems like a long shot on multiple levels.

Could we do a deal with Philly to send them Lavine?

Yup. Copying over to this thread:

If Jimmy comes back, Bulls playing 4D chess. Trade Jimmy for 3 assets (and avoid super max & treadmilling), tank for 2 years for more assets, sign Jimmy again... Success!!

How to make Jimmy happen:
- get waiver on asik
- dump dunn/denzel/blakeney (use future picks/2nd round picks if necessary)
- stretch or dump felicio (stretch would be easier for obvious purposes)
-Sign Jimmy with capspace

Then we'd have room MLE to sign a vet PG (Rondo/Rose/Beverly (if he wants to come cheap))
and then bring back NOAH as vet big

Lavine/Jimmy/OPJ/Lauri/WCJ
vet PG/#7/Hutch/____/Noah

We would be missing a big but those are easily picked up.

My fantasy is signing Jimmy and flipping OPJ+WCJ+#7+Future pick for a confirmed resigning AD

Vet PG/Lavine/Jimmy/Lauri/AD

:droop:

It is a long shot but 'you miss every shot you don't take' . If Jimmy says make it happen, I think the FO can pull it off. We know they are good at dumping players

That team would be pretty good defensively and pretty great offensively.
