The Heat started their rebuild with way less to work with asset and cap-wise than we did and, as of now, it looks like they’re way ahead of where we are. We had identical 41-41 records in 16-17 but during their bottoming out their worst year was 18-19 with 39 wins so they also had less draft capital. Shows what a good FO and good coaching can do.
Worse draft capital, probably worse trade assets, and in cap hell. Yet, they STILL got creative and found a way to get Jimmy in free agency and come up with a S&T worth phillys while
This sure is the big issue with GarPax. Every GM/Front Office makes mistakes with respect to draft picks, talent evaluation, free agency, contracts etc... But, the good ones recover from them. Paxson was whining about Rose's injury for 5/6 years after his injury. Miami lost Bosh to injury and LeBron to free agency. The Bulls would have shut down their franchise for the next 2 decades if something like that had happened to them.
The year they lost Lebron, they traded for Dragic, who was still at the time an all-star caliber player, and got Hassan Whiteside off the scrap heap. Also, when people mention D-mitch, Collins, Allen, Kuzma being better picks than Lauri despite being picked later in that draft, don't forget about Bam. He was late lottery too in that draft and would absolutely go ahead of Markk in a redraft
