The Ringer giving Coby White some love

Post#1 » by Shill » Wed Jul 10, 2019 10:23 pm

Coby White has been the most impressive 2019 lottery pick at Las Vegas summer league (somewhat by default). Will he have the same success fitting into a Bulls team looking to finally emerge from the East basement?

Scottie Pippen's response to whom he would pick for his running mate, Michael or LeBron: "That's a dumbass question. I've never done anything with LeBron. I wouldn't take LeBron to the movies."

I saw that this morning. My guess is the writer wanted to do an update story on summer league and realized White is the only lottery pick playing. No matter the reason, here's to hoping White is something more than the next Eddie Basden.

He's been most impressive as most others couldn't play due to trades or injuries. Not exactly a banner year for summer league.

Some things that I recently learned about Coby:

- Most points in NC State prep history

- Scored more points than Michael Jordan as a freshman (MJ's team won the NCAA)

- Father was a basketball player

- Brother is an assistant coach

- Considered one of the fastest (maybe the fastest) players in college with the ball

- Because of this he was told to always push the ball at every chance (saw this in an interview)

- One of the best spot up shooters in the draft

- One of the best players at getting to the FT line

This is an impressive list.

Before the draft I said that the Bulls should pass on Coby White and draft Jaxson Hayes. After watching Jaxson Hayes destroy the Bulls yesterday I have objective proof that I was right and everyone else was wrong. White is a nice player, but drafting based on team need when you have a top 10 pick is always a stupid idea. You have to draft the best player available.

Hayes is a fine center and all but if you want big who can shoot is more valuable than one that vertical spaces and rim runner.

If Hayes had the skill set of JJJ I would agree but he doesn’t

If the Bulls do, you would be complaining to much to ever hear it.

NBA fan logic we need to trade one of two best players because (Player X) one needs to shine more.

Your objective proof is one summer league game?

In today's meta, I'm not sure if Hayes is the best player. Everyone dribbles and shoots 3's these days.

I disagree with what must be your definitions of objective, proof, right, wrong, everyone and best.

Weak draft class. Everyone’s injured but at the very least Coby is showing up. His game will be fine. He might have a good career , could be a closer to the top of his draft class and in this class he might have a Livingston type career and still be a top player in the draft class.

But other than that Mrs Lincoln, how was the play?

Cam Payne was the dominant performer in summer league last time I checked, so that kind of puts things into perspective.

Coby White was my pick though so I'll take anything singing his praises.

I love how he gets to the line and converts at the FT line.

That will always translate.

So Rj is not a lottery pick.
