3x actually. Was in Houston for both of their titles under Rudy T. and then was in San Antonio for one more. Not that it makes him a good head coach, but he does have three rings. I'm still not a fan but if he can turn this Bulls team around, I will be. I thought he was cringe-worthy last season. The Bulls need to keep him as far away from the microphone as possible, regardless. Every time he opens his mouth, I want to throw an orange into it.

Interesting. I did not know he was on the Houston Championship teams staff

Jim Boylan recently sued the Cavs for ageism which is kinda neat, but he also played Larry Hughes much more than he should have. New Boylen is definitely more quotable. I'm gonna go with option C even though this is exactly the type of stupid thing that keeps me up at night.

Re: Summer OT. Jim Boylan vs Jim Boylen
Boylen definitely has had a more interesting career as an assistant.
Boylan's both (interim) head coaching jobs were after Skiles' firing (both in CHI and MIL). Perhaps the only time this has ever happened in the history of the NBA? Obviously neither the Bulls nor the Bucks saw anything remotely promising in Boylan to resign him past his half-season interim stints.
Frankly I think head coaching is more about player communication, and it doesn't hurt to have charisma with the media/camera (unless your Popovich, although besides winning for many decades, I think his confident "I don't feel like talking to you" is a schtick within itself). If a coach has a strong relationship with the media and fans, it's a big boost of confidence and leverage for controlling your locker-room. If coaches earn the media's respect, it's hard for players to turn on them and come off looking good.
Boylen has shown a loud vocal presence. It's middle school P.E. style with Boylen, but he's been pretty entertaining we all must admit. If the Bulls start winning +.500, the lunch-pail blue-collar "Da Bears", Waddles and general Chicago fanbase are gonna shower Boylen with love. If they continue losing, he'll be blamed for being too old-school and disconnected. But atleast he chose to make that 50-50 gamble.
Boylan .... never made a noise. We had Boylan for a few years, yet didn't really know anything about him.

After tonight’s game and the start of the season I might be swinging Boylan.

Exactly. I think it was pretty easy saying Boylan was worse early o but by the end of all of this I think Boylen wins.

Jim Boylen was far worse since he left a trail of damage behind him that will take a long, long time to fix. Boylan was terrible for a year and they moved on.

Re: Summer OT. Jim Boylan vs Jim Boylen
Both are assistant coaches who should never have been elevated to the HC position. On this I think all can easily agree. Had Boylen not been signed as a HC, this would have been a draw. Unfortunately for everyone concerned, Paxson f’d up and Boylen had the extended opportunity to show how bad he is.

Not to mention, he did have Arron Gray playing the best ball of his career.

It should really be a fresh poll since alot of the votes were premature

Re: Summer OT. Jim Boylan vs Jim Boylen
Imagine some teen named Jimmy Boilen is a mediocre high school player, but really sharp regarding the game. In twenty years he's a rising star in the assistant coaching circles. I feel like he and the Bulls would have to mutually agree to not even consider. Sorry, Jimmy, wipe that job of your graduation dreams list.

Boylan:
Worst things:
- Coached a team expected to compete for the championship
- Didn't deal with any major injuries
- Refused to develop any young players when the season was clearly lost
Mitigating factors:
- Players were probably all fully tuned out when he took over
Boylen
Worst things:
- Was a good part of the cause of players tuning out
- Didn't seem to connect with people
- Poor results
Mitigating factors:
- Coached a team expected to win about 35 games
- Dealt with major injuries
Not much redeeming about either guy. Neither guy was head coach material clearly. I would rather have another year of Boylen than Boylan though.

Right? Like how is this even a "contest". Boylen made me apathetic to the the team.. And that's the first time I can truly say that as a life long Bulls fan.The Explorer wrote:Jim Boylen was far worse since he left a trail of damage behind him that will take a long, long time to fix.
