Here is zach working on his lateral movement which is 1 of the single most important factors in what is considered good defense.

Quick, where’s JohnnyVan???

I've always said that if Lavine plays well and actually helps the Bulls win games I'll be his biggest fan. So far, I really like what I'm seeing. However, it's still preseason and the Bulls still have not won a game that matters. Zach looks fresh but he still has some things that bother me impact wise. Even in preseason some of his decision making has been questionable. Still
pounding the ball while being indecisive. Still making bad careless passes. Still getting lost in the team defensive scheme at times. Still launching some questionable shots.

That said, I think he's going to be much better than I ever thought he could be. If he can just come correct with some of these things, he can be a perennial all star and a huge positive impact player on a good team. I've noticed a lot of good things lately from him even in preseason. Looking forward to a Bulls season and seeing what Lavine can do more than I have in several years.

If he does what you are asking for he’s the MVP. No player is perfect. All have flaws. Everyone has lapses, turnovers, and bad shots. See Lebron and Curry.

We should be thrilled Lavine is what he is. We can all see there a lot more there too.

LaVine is walking the walk, and I'm loving it.

LaVine's game has flaws, and it sure looks like he is methodically addressing those flaws, working on them, improving, getting better.

So, a best case scenario: we are seeing a superstar breaking out before our eyes.

I gave up on him since he seemed to abandon defense and he said he would focus only on what hes good at.
Thank god Young taught him a lesson during training camp and held him accountable.
6th yr are usually when you dont become noticeably better since your more of a veteran and this season is probably make or break.
Lamelo will be a future superstar Bull. Book it. Lavar for president!

Look, he has the athleticism, coordination, and basketaball sense to be a complete pest on defense. He works real hard in the offseason and has some pride in his game; not just sucking down Popeyes or Brazilian BBQ all summer, I’m sure if we ever got in a highly heightened competitive situation (playoffs) Zach Lavine would probably shake off his reputation as a horrid defender once and for all.

I liked what I've seen on the court during preseason, which is usually "defense lite", so that's a positive.

Situationally, I will say that the combination of his injury history and changing defensive schemes almost every season and many new teammates all have worked against his historical defensive effectiveness.

He has a right to be mad, what I'd say is play defense and people will notice

All Star game Starter, DPOY canadite SHOULD be his goals for the year.

I am excited to watch him and Coby, they both are blurs on the court.

His #1 goal BY FAR should be leading the Bulls into the playoffs.

If that in turn results in some individual accolades as well, good for him.

Thing is he is pretty good with media imho. He quotes well enough he knows what to say etc... last year offering to pay Boylens fines, talking about how he needs to improve his defense in the offseason, he gets the media game. There are far worse people in front of a mic (Yeah Rose I am looking at you)

i kinda imagine the instincts are always gonna be iffy, but if he can semi-consistently give a **** + lock in during crunch-time possessions, i think that's a pretty good target for him on that end of the ball

Saw a game the other day and noted his instincts are what looked much improved defensively. Could make all the difference.

I think his poor defense was optically compounded by rest of non-defenders on floor.

Last night I watched Parker and Portis go head-to-head, and it made me happy...that they are elsewhere.

Honestly, Lavine does seem willing to work hard on his game. Unfortunately, things like defense and playmaking often can't be much improved via effort in your 20s as they are so reliant on instinct.

No amount of training is going to make Lavine into a good defender or passer. It's baked in.
