Thad seemed to come into the season out of shape, but started playing better once he got into shape. His biggest problem was that his 3pt shot was bad.

Wonderboy thinking Sato played horrendously, and Thad played well is pretty funny.

They were both exceedingly mediocre. Thad was openly dogging it at times.

I think both are solid MLE type players - not saying I want them. But they are solid. Sato is overpaid but he was a RFA, so you couldn't expect to steal a cheap young-prime combo guard below market. Thad is a good playoff-caliber forward; overpaid by about $5m but apparently Doug Collins convinced everyone that the way to get Lauri to play better is signing a full-time PF to share minutes with.

Fact is GarPax had their heads in their *** when they spend a lot of cap on role players at positions of NO NEED, for a developing team.

But they are serviceable 2-way veterans. They're absolutely top-7 players on this roster, arguably top-5 when you consider two-way impact. You can do worse with the roster spots (Felicio, Valentine, Kornet - arguably Shaq/Dunn/Arci). I agree we would've been better off without them, but I wouldn't plan a Bulls resurgence around changing that now. You're either letting Thad go for a bag of plain Lay's potato chips or you're keeping him for depth on a chronically injured front-court and a semblance of maturity on a team full of young adults.

Maybe in hindsight, but the Satoranksy signing was considered great by the media and a lot of board posters.

https://www.blogabull.com/2019/9/16/20863758/tomas-satoransky-highlights-fiba-world-cup-bulls

The Bulls new point guard hasn’t just been the best player on a darling, underdog Czech Republic team. He’s been one of the best players in the whole freaking tournament.

15.5 points per game. 5.6 rebounds per game. 8.5 assists per game. 48,1 percent from 3-point land on over three attempts per game. 2.8 turnovers per game which gives him an over 2:1 assist-to-turnover ratio.

He probably isn’t going to reciprocate these numbers come the NBA season, but Satoransky has to be the most complete point guard the Chicago Bulls have had on their roster since Derrick Rose, right?

https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/bulls/tomas-satoransky-continues-fiba-world-cup-dominance-against-poland

The Bulls' newest point guard was at it again in the FIBA World Cup, posting a 22-point, 12-assist line in the Czech Republic's 94-84 victory over Poland on Wednesday.

Satoransky went 8 of 14 from the field, connected on 2 of 4 3-pointers and made all four of his free throw attempts. He also added four rebounds and was a team-high +16 in 32 minutes.

Through six games, Satoransky has averaged 15.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 8.9 assists in 33.9 minutes. He's shot 46.7% from the field and made 45.5% of his 22 3-point attempts.

The FO at the time was planning on going big for the 21 FA class like most of the league, so it had to be only a 2 year contract or cheap 3 year with a non-guaranteed 3rd year, which is what Sato was.

Better PGs like Brogdon demanded a 4 year full contract and probably a team closer to winning games than Chicago.

Given all these restrictions that you couldn't pay much, couldn't give more than 2 years, and Chicago was a crappy team, I'm not sure how the Bulls do much better when you're only paying slightly above MLE, which is an insult offer for most good players.

I dont have issues with either signing and the 3rd year guarantee helps, I do feel like they filled a need.

And this is Chicago, at least get a bag of Jay's instead of Lays chips.

I agree, but the thing is I take thads toughness and defense anyday over Satos punk ass. Satos 3 point shot was falling either.

I can’t blame Sato for taking the money. Probably the his best offer he recieved. No other team would offer that. But there are a ton of Pgs making less money then Sato that are WAY better. Hell DRose is making less then Sato. Sato is probably a 3rd strong point guard borderline back up pg on a non playoff team. Dunn who gets a lot of **** on this board Is more impactful then Sato.

Heres the thing with the bulls. They make dumbass choices. I’ve been saying for 2 years that the bulls should’ve gave Kendrick Nunn a look. I saw him at the Las Vegas summer league for 2 years and seen him play since he was a freshman in highschool. But what do the bulls do? They go spend 10 million dollars on Tomas ”Suckeransky. The bulls could’ve had a cheaper and better player if they didn’t have their head in their asses.

I hear you dude but, IMO, you can't realistically develop more than 3 or 4 1st and 2nd year players at a time and expect to really develop them the right way. Also, teams, like ours, with a bunch of young guys lose, a lot! Then the good guys from that group get frustrated and leave.

Bulls trade OPJ, Lauri, 7
Blazers trade McCollum, 14

Bulls draft Nesmith, wing

McCollum, White
Lavine, White
Sato, Nesmith
Young, WCJ
WCJ, Gafford

Kelly Obre for Young straight up. They have two young wings and need a veteran power forward to play Ayton.

Blah we already got a player like McCollum in Lavine. We don't need double the headache. Then downgrading from opj to sato? Blahhhh. Then trading down the pick??

Sato should not be starting. He got absolutely murdered trying to defend wings last season.

I agree about Sato. No way in hell that guy should be starting. Mccollumn has game but is similar to Lavine. Rather just start Lavine and White in the backcourt and look for a starting small forward.

I'd do this in a heartbeat! But I don't think the Blazers would.
We're getting the best player on the deal for a downgraded pick on a weak draft. OPJ can barely stay on court, and has one year left on a pretty expensive deal. Markannen is at his lowest trade value. Only one year left on his rookie deal after coming from a down year.
Also, I love Nesmith, but I don't think he'll be around at 14.

Well Thad was the better player this season but According to posters on this board Sato was good and Thad was terrible which was not the case. It’s obvious a bias on this board with Sato due to the European connection. Every other board would tell you how bad Sato was. He is not a starting point guard. He’s barely a back up guard.

Except Sato is not a 2 way player. He’s terrible in defense. Hes in the right spot most of the time but can’t guard anybody. Lavine had to take the tough assignments when Dunn went down. LITERALLY ALL of the bulls anouncers was calling out Satos defense. Sexton was putting on an And 1 mixtape vs Sato when they played Cleveland. Dinwiddie made Sato his bitch when they played. And these aren’t the even the top tier Pgs in the league. Sato probably the most overrated bull in REALGM history.

I would rather keep Dunn and Harrison, than Sato - heck we get 2 players for price of 1 and we have two hardnosed defense dogs, who can play from 1-3 spots as well on occasion, despite oversized for SF.

At this point, we should probably consider opening a "wonderboy's daily Sato rant"-thread, so he can come up with new reasons to hate Sato there and the other threads can go back to normal.
