It's all of the teams in the playoff hunt brought back for a 8 game season to finish out.

All the teams in the playoff hunt + Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, that is.

Hard to balance it all out.
1: Straight to the playoffs makes the most logical sense fairness wise, but you probably want some regular season to warm guys up again and need to fulfill your local TV deals.

2: If you aren't going straight to the playoffs then you need some non playoff teams in there to have a playoff race or else what are you dong?

3: Once you include any non playoff teams, you get caught with a "what's one more game problem" If you bring in a team at less than 3, why cut it at 3 and not 4, why 4 and not 5, why 5 and not 6? You get past that and now you have a real gap between the teams, so it makes sense.

I can see why they landed on this as the least bad of the alternatives when factoring in money, warm up, and other things, but it's a weird plan for fans to watch IMO.

You're right, there are a lot of factors to consider when it comes to balancing the whole thing. But it sure didn't hurt that both the Suns and Wizards have a pretty popular player on their team. It's completely understandable, though, as the league obviously wants to have as many fans as possible watching the games. Just personally, I'm not terribly excited to watch more Suns and especially Wizards basketball this season.

I don't think Beal or Booker move the needle on ratings. I think they definitely wanted to find a way to keep Zion involved for longer, but I don't think either of those guys you mentioned are that popular. I could be wrong of course, but I've never seen those guys as star power guys.

Yeah, I understand why they did it. I just think its interesting that it doesn't have balance to it. It's jut very unsportslike in general to have unbalanced brackets. I think you could have cut it at 18 teams reasonably, but I understand why they included everyone until the gap was bigger than 1 game.

We'll see how the rules actually play out, it feels like it might end up being really unfair to Memphis to me. It seems really unlikely that anyone would catch Memphis if you played out the rest of the season for real, so hopefully they get some pretty sizable advantage in a tournament if one exists.

The West is better and they want the Pelicans in the playoffs.

It's more about getting Zion in.

Eh, the Magic are not traditionally good at developing guys so you have to take it with a grain of salt.

Agreed. They've gotten a ton of high lotto picks and none of them has panned out yet. I also am of the belief that you don't wanna give up on a high potential big before he turns 25 because I feel like most bigs needs both their body and mind to mature before being able to contribute consistently.

Jonathan Isaac > Any of our players.

From a potential/asset standpoint, I agree. But right now he's not better than our best player imo.

I think 20 teams would have made more sense. Why Wash and the Suns?

Yeah, but the Pelicans at least had a very realistic shot at the playoffs.

Would be crazy if the wiz have a change of heart and wall plays eventhough he shot it down

a 10 game rehab or whatever might be a good idea given that the preseason will be abbreviated if not eliminated. assuming that the wiz are interested in competing next season

Its going to be interesting to hear from the players after this Disney World situation. Im curious how things like pressure and playoff intensity differ from the normal format.

No doubt, they were coming along nicely before things were shut down.
Just pointing out that Zion in the playoffs is good for business

So what does testing supply/demand look like across the country?

NBA will be testing everyday throughout playoffs in bubble. 1600 people in bubble with families joining after round 1.

Is that socially acceptable?

couple of interesting rex chapman tidbits from dan patrick interview on friday:

-he was going to be traded for ron harper prior to MJ announcing his return but got injured, killing the deal

-when he was being recruited in 1986 his sister was instructed to give up the phone whenever a recruiter called. MJ called on behalf of dean smith. perhaps not knowing who he was and given that he was not a recruiter, she hung up on him

I love Harper, but Rex Chapman would’ve been **** great on this team as a fourth option.

harper's defense at the point was more valuable than rex's offense off the bench would have been

anybody have any thoughts about what could/should be done to give higher seeded teams a "home court" advantage? some stuff being talked about are letting the higher seeded teams have first pick of hotels, letting them have the ball first to begin the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters, having distractions behind the basket on free throws for the "road" team, and even letting teams fly their actual courts in to play in. i can't imagine that that last one would be a difference maker. maybe if the celtics were able to bring in the parquet from old boston garden with its dead spots and unevenness
