It'd be nice if the media asked AK how much power the GM would ultimately have. For that reason, it's hard to gauge what type of GM would fit best. My gut is that Eversley will get it and that was why we talked to Colangelo.

Didn't Vinnie Goodwills report say that we want to hire a person of color as the GM? If that is indeed true, that would rule out Lloyd and leave us with Eversley or Hughes as GM candidates.

Re: Bulls GM Search Official Thread - Permission to Speak to 3 Candidates [Woj]
I would say pretty weak names. Loyd is here most experienced one. Maybe even most succesful. He also worked for Bulls when they were mostly good in 21st century. And after he left our scouting department our draft picks basically were worth used toilet paper.
Hughes worked for Knicks for years in scouting department. That's huge red flag. I would never hire single former Knicks executive specially those from scouting department prior Phil Jackson coming to Knicks.
Eversley is weird name. He worked for Raptors prior Ujiri, I guess under Colangelo and when Ujiri came he left for Wizards to work under Grunfeld. After few years he got job with 76ers and got later promotion around when Colangelo came. That also screams red flag.
Credential wise Loyd should be one getting a job.

I expect Matt Lloyd to win.

Man, I was kind of hoping Langdon would get the gig....
Just so I could know that I used to beat the Bulls GM at Spenard Rec in his high school hero days...

First pass of names, maybe more coming. But don't dismiss someone because they worked for a different team could be that they were just ignored. This is all building a room. AK will have final say

So far, this is the only bad news since the Bulls made a change. I was hoping for Shane Battier or Trajan Langdon (both Duke guys coincidentally).
Riley still holds a grudge of Michael beating him up apparently - he just won't let any of his guys interview for Bulls' positions. That, or he is advising his team that the Bulls are a mess.

I still like the idea of Michael Finley. I have no idea if he would be good, but he checks all of the boxes for likely helping us recruit free agents. And he’s a Chicago guy too.
We have Martell Webster. He's called Kyle Korver here, and we shall love him and squeeze him and call him Ashton. -BrooklynBulls

I'm not excited about this list. But guys at the Assistant GM level aren't public facing, so I can't pretend to have a strong opinion about any of them.

This is for GM, not AGM... this role will be public facing; the new Gar. The buck will still ultimately stop with AK, but whoever gets this role will definitely be put in front of a microphone.

Yeah, all of these candidates report to someone else who reports to someone else; so it's hard to gauge their value in an organization despite qualification. Matt Lloyd is the only one, who we know was apart of a strong stretch of scouting with the Bulls.

Re: Bulls GM Search Official Thread - Permission to Speak to 3 Candidates [Woj]
Given his track record with our organization, Matt Lloyd makes a ton of sense. Not sure if he would ultimately get the job, but he obviously would be great at finding hidden gems in the draft for us.
If the Bulls want to go for a former player with possible pull with current players, I would also be fine with that. However, they would really need to find someone with a good NBA pedigree as a player and not just a role player if we are going to convince stars to come here. Not necessarily someone who was a star as a player, but at least someone with championship experience.

I think one of the aspects beyond analytics is the recruitment of free agents and changing the public image of the franchise.
I hope our new hire for the GM position represents that viewpoint.

Marc Eversley is probably the stronger option if that's what you're after.
On 2nd thought, I think Eversley is the most interesting name on that list if we're treating the GM role as a relationship/recruiting role. Eversley worked at Nike for 7 years.

I just read up a little on him. He sounds like a solid choice overall. But as far as recruiting free agents, someone like Finley would otherwise have the edge due to his status as a former all star player.
But again, sounds like Eversly is likely the stronger candidate as far as the job itself.

Re: Bulls GM Search Official Thread - Permission to Speak to 3 Candidates [Woj]
Not sure why Matt Lloyd is such a good candidate. Personally, I don’t like his past affiliation with the club, though as a scout its not that big a deal. But why do we want someone involved with the Magic and their decision making? What have they done good? I personally hate their entire personnel.
