OT - Silvy Diagnosed with Stage 3 Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma

Post#1 » by Susan » Wed Apr 22, 2020 7:44 pm

Know he's a reader of this board and just wanted to give him a big e-hug. He's been a staple in Chicago Sports Radio for a long while now and has been one of my favorite hosts for nearly 20 years.

https://www.dailyherald.com/sports/20200422/feder-espn-1000s-marc-silverman-reveals-cancer-diagnosis

Marc Silverman, widely admired afternoon co-host on Good Karma Brands ESPN sports/talk WMVP 1000-AM, disclosed on his show Tuesday that he has been diagnosed with Stage 3 Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system, Robert Feder writes.

That's tough to hear. I like Silvy a lot though haven't listened in over a year due to schedule. He feels like a friend to all Chicago sports fans.

My dad had a similar diagnosis and was able to beat it for now with chemo, so I'm optimistic for Silvy.

All-in for Silvy... appreciated him being more vocal about the Bulls dysfunction in a reasonable way over the past several years.

If only he were a Sox fan...

I haven't listened to sports radio regularly since I started working downtown, but I loved his shows with both Carmen and Waddle. Always a great listen, and like everyone, will be cheering for a healthy, speedy recovery.

As an overseas guy, I haven't listened to him on the radio, but I know he's been a big part of the Bulls community.

So if you're reading, Silvy, thoughts are with you, mate.

Dang Waddle and Silvy are good escapism and have been great during this pandemic. They've def carried me thru some times man. Hope Chicago radio listeners can return the favor

Silvy, thoughts are you with you! You've certainly helped me get through some down times by being able to listen to some Bulls discussion on the radio during long commutes.

Very sobering news-

Guy is the same age as me, my wife grew up around him - Niles North. I've probably listened to him on Chicago radio since he started. Love how he worked himself from noting to a Chi radio legend.

The worst part is he just stated up a family in the last few years, has very young kids.

He's young and in good shape so he will beat it-

News like this is why I've been trying to take better care of myself as I hit 50.

Silvy here is to recovery! I listened to him early on with Carmen, actually just referenced him as being the reporter who last minute said Krause was going to take Odom. Always liked the guy honestly, I personally listen to the WSCR more just because of the production aspect. ESPN has a certain sheen across all their products that I don’t love but it has nothing to do with their actual hosts. Silvy is one of the best if not the best host to talk about the Bulls imho.

Wishing Silvy a quick recovery. He makes Chicago sports so much more enjoyable, especially when teams are in a rut (e.g., Chicago Bulls circa today). Never met him before but he seems like a really awesome guy.

I love that he cares about the Bulls and that he started to tell it like it is the last few years. He's a knowledgable Chicago meatball which makes him great. Hoping for a speedy recovery for the guy as he seems like a great father and husband.

Off topic, but I just turned on espn radio streaming for the first time in months. I used to listen only in the car. It's crazy how different their voices sound online streaming vs over the air radio broadcast. Sound like different people lol. Not in a good or bad way, just funny.

I wish him a speedy recovery and all the best. I listen to their podcast from time to time on long drives and what not. Even though I'm not in Chicago anymore, I would make and effort to listen to W&S to get a pulse of Chicago.
KC: Do you still think you're a championship-caliber team?
Gar: I never said that and correct me if I'm wrong.
KC: You were asked that question at the news conference announcing Thibodeau's dismissal and you answered yes

A legitimately good dude and person. Always been good to me. I tune into U.S. radio from abroad because of him. He'll kick its ass.
