Meh, call me crazy but I'm a D'Antoni fan. I don't know what he exactly coaches, but his teams have regularly won and contended (besides for NYK, which I did watch a bit and thought at worst... they were still running fast-paced ball and boosting trade stock for their dump-rating players, till the Melo trade blew up the path). You wonder what D'Antoni could've done with an older Chandler, Gallinari and the FRPs (though I guess those guys hit injuries too). LAL was just a big disaster. Nash was cooked; Dwight's back was also cooked but nobody seemed to realize it until his decline continued in HOU; Kobe tore his heel.

Seems for every one of his losing seasons (which btw weren't complete Hoiberg/Boylen dumpster fires IMO), I can come up with an explanation why. For example, in 09 the Knicks dumped all the veteran talent (Z-Bo, Crawford, Q-Rich) to make a run at the 2010 FA class. IMO that 07 team had the pieces to win it all but the Horry push got Amare and Diaw suspended in the crucial game 5, which is just an insane amount of production to remove from a team with a very short rotation. He played 6 guys in game 5. Nash (32yo) at 46 min, Kurt (34yo) at 36 min. Not to mention Sarver was pretty cheap as an owner, consistently letting talent go for savings (Johnson, Q, draft picks like Nate and Rudy).

Not at all coaching-wise, but persona-wise, he kinda reminds me of Phil Jackson meets Don Nelson. He's clearly able to get the best out of certain types of players.

He still has never won a chip, and I think he'd like to accomplish that. I'd be open to having the Bulls hire him. I really think this team needs an offensive mind-set. Yes, yes - I love the defensive identity of the 90s Bulls, but there is literally no team that plays like that today; winning games with intense ball pressure and traps. If the Warriors didn't have the three best 3P shooters in the game, two of them basically unstoppable shooting-off-the-dribble with a hand in their face, there is no way they'd win those chips despite the excellent team defense from Iguodala, Dray and others. The structure was built on offensive pace and unstoppable scoring.

Evs wants tough two way players. That’s not Mike D

I’m expecting Udoka or Griff. I thinks it going to be awhile too. Evs already knows Udoka and so does AK. AK knows Griff.

JMO, they already know their guy. Just like AK knew it was Evs. They are interviewing to see if there is anyone that proves their choice for coach wrong and makes them reevalute.

I expect Udoka to be a very good coach.

KC on Boylen:
If the league and players association come to an agreement on formal offseason activities for the eight teams not in Orlando and a decision hasn’t been reached, those would offer another opportunity to analyze Boylen. As previously reported, Karnisovas has empowered Boylen for now. They have shared meetings about player development plans and draft preparation. Boylen is planning for his normal offseason visits of players not in-market.

I think AK wants to be a man of his word and view Boylen in a coaching setting. Not worried about him retaining his job though.

You don’t “develop a relationship” or “empower” or have have a guy helping plan your future key decisions if you are planning to fire him.

It’s as simple as that.

Yeah, I have to admit, I'm getting nervous that we're just going to end up keeping him. We heard way too many rumors about how Reinsdorf and Paxson like Boylen. If that got to us, imagine how much AK must've heard it? Clearly, the guy is afraid of firing Boylen.

I'm definitely starting to get nervous on this. Even though only the Knicks are in a coaching search & everything is not exactly set in stone with the NBA. Still kind of feels like the longer this drags on the more likely he stays as coach.

I am hoping the reason no coaching change has been made yet is because ALL the candidates are employed by teams still playing.

If the 8 non invited teams have a summer league type play during playoff time, they would let Boylen coach the team.

Once most teams seasons are done then the Bulls can Fire Jimbo.

I know it's not impossible but I find it hard to believe the Bulls would bring in a new FO and not allow said FO have say who will be the coach. If AK does not win this battle, I said it before and I will say it again he should seriously think about leaving the Bulls. If you don't have the power to fire a coach and hire a new coach, then he(AK) will never have the kind of power needed to rebuild this franchise. Basically, AK will become nothing more than a figurehead with no actual power.

I still think Boylen is gone.

I don't buy us revamping everything and focusing on player development but keeping the coach players bagged on.

The way it seems to me is they feel nothing is going to happen until the season starts up so just aren’t in a rush. We have heard people on the Knicks list but nothing that says such coach has indeed interviewed. My guess is something happens around August 13th when the regular season ends and the playoffs start up.

Are we going to be competing with any other teams for Ime Udoka? Doubtful. Even if we were competing with another team, he himself, would is going to want to see how the lottery plays out before signing with a team.

I always thought AK's focus right now was on scouting for the draft. Bulls have to pay Boylen regardless, so it doesn't hurt to soak up some intel on the players.

Pretty sure I don't want the guy who looked at Luke Kornet and thought "Robert Horry!" to have any role whatsoever in the Bulls talent evaluation processes.

I wonder if AK is waiting to see if any poor playoff performances leads to a veteran coach being fired. Could create more options than what's available now.

Why wouldn't he do that? It is the smartest move.

Windhorst just said that he expects Boylen to be back because the Bulls won't pay 2 coaches.

I'm officially terrified.

No way, JR won't undercut his new GM like that.
