Not sure I agree with the criteria. His QO is now 7M instead of 4.6M.

Man, I really hope this makes it easier for Bulls not to make the QO.
I like Dunn, but the opportunity cost of keeping him (vs. presumably a much lower deal to Shaq) is way too high.

This is going to make the decision on him a whole lot more interesting.

I don't see the issue here. We have three restricted free agents this summer: Dunn, Valentine, and Harrison. If we renounce all three, we're still above the cap so Dunn's 1-year qualifying offer being $3M more should be meaningless to us.
If AK and the front office want to take a look at him in their system, under their coach (fingers crossed), I feel there's no harm in accepting the qualifying offer.

and if he has a breakout year (very unlikely given that he'll turn 27 during next season) he could potentially be dealt at the trade deadline

As much as I don't care to see this log-jam of young PGs to continue , I agree. I think it's a simple matter of evaluation.
Drawing from the Dinwiddie comparison ; no one expected him to have a fringe star career when the Bulls chose Jerian, Payne, Snell (into MCW) over him. I personally saw him as a keeper, but I think GarPax were presumptuous and figured "he's the cheapest asset, let him go."
If AK sees the ceiling in Dunn, and doesn't see much in Arci/Shaq/etc., then doesn't matter if the QO is $4m of 7m. I don't expect Dunn back, but I will say... he did look competent as a distributor in the 17/18 season while Zach was still out with the ACL. Even during the Niko super stretch, he was a big part of that win streak before he got shut down (along with the rest of the team).
In streaks, he's been good. I thought he regressed badly last year. Came into the season injured. Probably starting getting down on himself with 2-way guys like Arci and Shaq establishing themselves ahead of him in the rotation.
The fact is that he is a significantly more well-rounded player than Arci and Shaq. I like his athleticism and speed more than Sato. I'm all ears, but if I was AK, I'd try to shoot for a big consolidation trade and see who is left, who's needed.

It's going to be a matter of will he fit into the culture they're trying to build?
A defensive player like Dunn is needed for any team, the issue is can his lack of offensive game be mitigated to allow him to fit in with the proposed ideals of AK and Evs.

Players on QOs are rarely traded because they have no trade clause and their bird rights don't come with them, so teams still have to use an exception or cap room to sign them the following season.

It's ironic that this board kept pointing to not having defensive guards as why we lose for years, and when we finally get one everyone wants to drop him ASAP.
Non big men with a better DRPM than Dunn: Beverley, Kawhi Leonard, Gary Harris...and the list stops there.
People keep bringing up his offense, which is -0.87 ORPM.
Gary Harris' ORPM is -2.11 and he makes $18M per year.
Bradley is -1.41 ORPM, worse DRPM, and makes $12M per year.
Tobias Harris is -0.75 ORPM, +1.13 DRPM, and makes $31-$40M per year.
Being able to actually stop perimeter players in today's league, and PGs no less, is incredibly rare.
Dunn's problem isn't who he is, it's that the Bulls are so bad they don't need players who add to winning like he does, as a defensive roleplayer while the stars take care of the offense.
Bulls almost stole a win vs Milwaukee with Dunn guarding Giannis, and him defending Paul George did help the Bulls with their only big win of the season vs the Clippers.
Dunn could have pouted and quit this year and just looked forward to his next team, or just stat stuffed for his next contract. He didn't, and embraced a role no young #5 pick wants. Dunn did a fantastic job this season, whether the Bulls keep or him not, kudos to him.

We can still match any offer correct?
At 7 mil I'd rather wait and match, but will leave it to AK to determine the best approach

You must offer the QO before you get matching rights. So the risk is getting stuck with Dunn for 1 year at $7.1M. Which is on the fringe of being an overpay but only for one year.
I honestly have no feel for where AK and new mgmt are going to go with this team. If they offered him the QO I'd probably buy in, but my knee jerk reaction says he's not worth it.

true, but a contending team might be interested as a rental/FA feeler

Boylen is fking stupid. Why in the hell would he start above the qo minimum games when he didnt deserve to start anyways?
I am not big fan of Dunn but I was def going to keep him at 4. Now its twice. No freaking way AK does this.
I dont want the Bulls to waste development time on him if he is who he is. And 7mil isnt chump change either. Rather get toxic Wiggins contract and the number 1 pick with extra cap space.

This mentality is why Garpax have failed for decades the Bulls sucked. You never ever want to draft one way players where some solely focus on offense and the other solely on defense. This results in major roster imbalance which is exactly the Bulls have resulting in a bunch of decent specialists but useless when played together.
Also wheres this fake star for the Bulls? The Bulls dont have any star which is why you keep developing two way players to become the next Butler with better attitude.

Oops, ya, forgot that.
I've been a dunn fan since the trade, but have been disappointed post face plant. I guess it depends on the general team finances and what AK has in mind. I won't be sad if dunn walks, buy partnof me thinks hes a late bloomer that has been through a hodge podge of coaches/systems.

I don't think there will be a better PG available for next Season at that price tag. Just Keep him next Season and after that Season, everything goes back to normal (schedules and no more pandemic reasons).
Hire a new Coach, let them evaluate the Players they got from GarPax and go from there. If you can add a valueable piece or two you obviously do it, but with a new FO and Coach after this Situation it's best to just continue the rebuild the way it started.

I hear you but the current roster obviously wasnt a winner. Even 99% healthy i have doubts for .500.
In the end, could we spend that 7mil better? Or does it really matter with our cap situation?
Ps, any valentine rumors or harrison rumors?

Dunn at 7M aint that bad.. Still cheaper than Felicia! I like Kris, his energy, his D, his tenacity, hustle.. I would keep him for one more year maybe.
