Interesting posturing after an incredibly successful bubble. Thoughts?

To tell you the truth, I dont think the players have much of a choice given they will continue to lose money with only 50 games.

Trust me, no player cares if Lebron just came off a finals, 28 other teams didnt.

Plus the prime time networks and the local networks want their games. They lost a ton of money in the last season. They dont want to compound the problem by having a 50 game season.

Plus he’s coming off a Finals where he got a 3 month break before the playoffs. The lay-off amount is roughly the same, just staggered.

72 games please. Covid still here. Not going anywhere. We gotta stay home. 50 games is no bueno.

Totally agree. It's the only way we'll see our starters for 50 games.

We all prefer 72 games to 50, but I want to hear the players' argument for a Jan 18 start before forming any judgments.

The union's pushback on the bubble plan led to better COVID protocols. Gotta hear 'em out.

Dec 22 to Jan 15 is only 3 weeks + 3 days, how do they go from 72 to 50 games. 22 games over a 3 week period is more than 1 game per day, where they planning on 21 consecutive back to backs.

Will the players give up a portion of their salaries in that 50 games season? I find it really hard to believe.

A lot of players want their summers, so I think the PA will eventually cave to the start date.

I think the general push back from what I can tell is just around rest. I don't think they want 50 games, they want to just stretch the season longer and delay getting back on the normal calendar so still do 72 with a longer finish.

I think when they look at the numbers they'll land on the NBA's plan, but maybe they'll try to play hardball to start later and have a longer season and try and force the hand of ESPN/TNT, but that seems unlikely to be successful to me and likely the players union knows this.

Neither plan overlaps with the Olympics. That's why there are fewer games in the late start, to avoid the Olympics.

Not sure if you are asking if they would have to if they played a short season (yes) or if they'd choose the short season if they and take a pay cut (probably not).

Voting between 72 or 50 games. It will be 72.

FOLLOW THE MONEY ! No one, players or owners will want to lose anymore.

Then it would make absolutely no sense to delay the start of the 20/21 season.

The thing that some what irritates me is that its based off a premise that all the players are actually playing 50 games. They wont.

They could drop it to a 20 game season and you will still find load management fit in there somewhere.

I think the NBA/broadcast partners listened to the players a lot earlier with the bubble and social justice, and it's time for the players to listen to the owners and broadcast partners here. I think that will happen too.

Yeah, sorry, should have expressed myself better. I just find it hard to believe that a majority of players would accept a shortened season if that means losing a significant part of their salaries.

A 50 game season sounds awesome. Regular seasons are already 30 games too long.

No reason not to start in December. Players had plenty of rest, half of them like the bulls haven’t played since March and the others who were in the playoffs were off for 2-3 months prior to restarting. If they really want to start later on and play 50 games then they should also lose money not just the teams/owners. Honestly they should of started this season even sooner to catch up as much as possible.
