At least, we think and hope Fields era really begins. Nagy still lurks…….

I love the Fields pick and have confidence long term and would start him immediately even if it meant losses just to speed his progressing, but boy was he awful today.

Guys gotta catch the ball. As rough as it was, still pretty adequate if things broke the right way for him. Once he can develop timing and trust with the first team practice reps and games, nothing but room to improve. This is a hard situation for any rookie. Cold with no practice or tailored gameplan. He is way different than Dalton. Team was not ready for him. Edit: to reiterate, Nagy has done a godawful job all year of preparing this player and offense to be ready to succeed in this situation. Might even characterize it neglectful.

Hate to be the one to say it, but the offense was way smoother with Dalton. I like Fields but he has a long way to go.

He would have been bad either way, but if Robinson catches that TD that was a pure drop his day sure looks a lot better.

Awful is what Zach Wilson was today.
Justin had multiple big drops by his WRs today.. Allen Robinson needs to catch that TD pass.
Timing will be better with practice.

After Dalton and the offense marched down the field for a TD on their first possession, I thought the offense was going to have a good day. I never would have imagined that would be their only TD of the game. That first drive was mainly through the air, too.

Someone also being awful (or even worse) doesn't make Fields good. Fields was terrible. Failed to get a TD despite multiple short fields, couldn't move the ball, threw a disastrous interception that could have cost them the game after the defense turned the ball over on three straight plays and scored a TD.

Agreed, but even if he catches that pass Fields has what 90 something yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT?
Timing will be better with practice.
Surely, it was his first meaningful playing time. I don't think anyone should feel one way or the other about Fields long term based on this performance, but it was still bad. I'm still very high on Fields in the long run and would take all the lumps necessary in the short run to get that long run here sooner.

My thoughts exactly. Let Fields get a real game plan and a week w the 1s and see what happens.

A week, or 5 or 6. And a training camp. And a coach that calls plays to fit the player rather than the system. The latter being Fields’ ball and chain

Let's just let Fields develop for a couple years and see what happens. He's going to take his lumps. It's okay that he's a work in progress right now as long as he is learning and growing and over two seasons we see that progress on the field.

Doug, we're Chicago Bears fans. We know what awful QB play looks like. What Fields was doing out there today was far from awful ESPECIALLY when you see other rookie QBs out there doing this:
That slot corner blitz he got murdered in pre-season? He caught today (and got an awkward false start penalty because the timing between him and Mustipher was off).
He had learning moments but he's got the full support of that locker room.
Outside of the INT, where's the awful? Lots of good throws, a few drops, a few excellent scrambles/broken tackles.

Joe Brady is the truth.
If Dasai is legit, that's a good combo.

Dalton should not start next week and Nagy should give up playcalling. The Fields interception was a great play from the linebacker more than a bad throw or bad read on Fields part. That's not taking into account the drop by Mooney and touchdown drop by Robinson or the horrible pass interference call on Kmet which makes Justin's day look a lot better.
Burrows interception thrown to Smith was much worse considering he stared down the receiver.
I can't take seriously people who said Dalton played competent last week but say Fields played awful this week.

For the life of me, how is 6 yards per completion ever impressive or something to make people feel better about a quarterback. It's simply not a lasting formula for points.
Anyway It would be taking liberties with wishful thinking to say that Fields being in the game energized the defense too. But for a stretch there, it was like 2018 again.

Burrow is on pace to be sacked 76 times, and ruined forever. The Bengals should probably find an old quick release vet to throw dink passes.

fields was very accurate and used his legs well in appropriate situations. the INT should not have been thrown, but he was baited beautifully and a safer play call probably should have been made (run or rollout). i assume that the false starts will not be an issue going forward and hopefully he'll be more careful with the ball in the pocket, particularly given the line he's playing behind
reasons for victory in descending order of importance:
1) burrow terrible
2) defense good/opportunistic
3) O-line competent
4) dalton good

so you're saying that if fields is kept away from massage parlors we project to be very satisfied?
