Not great, but not awful. Was expecting closer to $55mil, but that's just nitpicking. Pretty sure that last year is a TO, so that's definitely a good trade chip.

Fine with it if the last year is a TO.

"good trade chip" is not the phrase i would use to describe a $20 million/year contract for a heavily flawed starting center entering his age 33 season

Yeah, the better move was to let him walk and sign Bismack Biyombo

I never liked vuc as a bull so I'm not particularly pleased

Love him or hate him, 20MM/year for a walking double double aint a bad contract. If he can keep that 3PT near/above 35%, on top of his post scoring and rebounding, he will be worth the money. I think his game will stay above average for the next 3 years.

Not a good choice tbh but Vuce is at least tradable at that rate. So swap him out asap. He may not be traceable in Year 2.

It's a reasonable deal (although it might bite them unless the 3rd year is a team option or only partially guranteed), but signals a quasi "run-it-back" approach, IMO.
My inference from reports is that they were shopping Zach, and if a great deal was offered, they would consider starting a rebuild. That great trade offer never materialized, so the Bulls will do some version of "run it back and hope."
While that might be frustrating for many, consider that just the addition of old man Beverly made the Bulls into a decent to watch team again. If the strong play with Lonzo and decent play with Beverly showed something, it's that when the Bulls trio are surrounded by players that force some semblance of aggressive D and non-ISO offense... they can be pretty good (if not great).
Beverly-Caruso-LaVine-Derozan-Vuc was the Bulls most effective non-minimal usage lineup....

I feel like some hating on this deal are ones who want us to go after Tobias Harris, who is making over $30mil a season. I think $20mil for Vuc is a contract we could easily move if need be. We do need larger contracts to trade and if we lost him for nothing we arent getting a better player for the MLE. I think we still need to change up some of the team and will be upset if we just run it back with no changes, but the contract isnt terrible, especially in todays league with some of the max deals out there

Continuing to get to watch this dude at center for the same price I've had to watch him the last 2 years. Wow, what a treat this is. Really excited about this.

Yeah, the free agent market for centers is much better

I like this move. I love it if yr3 is TO and moreso if it's declining. Bulls cannot lose assets for nothing. I'd have dealt Vuc at deadline, but if there were no decent offers or whatever the reason, at this point, retaining him on a decent deal, esp with increasing cap, isn't that bad. If it's a TO for yr 3, he's tradable at the deadline or next offseason. And if they can add shooting and a PG (not easy, I know), I think he can be better utilized.
But mainly, it's because I think the "cap space" fiction of a magically better move is unrealistic. Bulls are over the cap with or without him. Short of blowing it up, which doesn't appear to be happening, having assets that can be combined to match salaries and are at least somewhat productive maintains flexibility.
I'd have rather traded him at the deadline, but this isn't a bad move IMO.

Could be worse. He's overrated by many people, and not really a "plus" starter, BUT, it's a pay cut from his current deal, which in the age of wild inflation, isn't terrible.

Just awful. Should’ve let him walk. No idea what AKME are trying to accomplish by keeping this squad together.

this is about what we expected. it's a good deal, less AAV than he previously made (way less considering salary inflation) and it's only three years. incredibly tradeable and actually good value.
we had to re-sign him, letting him go for nothing doesn't actually give us any cap space. it makes the team worse now and in the future, a good player on a fair contract is an asset even if you want to rebuild.
I was hoping maybe a sign and trade, but this is fine. I don't understand the hate in this thread

I don't think anybody wants to go after Tobias Harris.
