Poll: Will you pay $30/mo for Chicago Sports Network/Bulls Games?

Post#1 » by boozapalooza » Thu Nov 14, 2024 5:58 pm

The $30/month CSN subscription cost was just announced recently.

Curious on what everyone else thinks - my answer is a resounding NO if the Bulls aren’t going to be competitive. Bulls and White Sox fans collectively should boycott any Reinsdorf venture. I am curious if there are die hard fans out there willing to pay the price and for their perspectives.

Personally I have never been more uninterested in a Bulls season and think that is felt across the board - game threads that used to be 50+ pages long are barely scratching 5-10 pages. I haven’t been able to watch games this year but don’t feel like I’m missing anything. Happy to follow box scores and hope we can tank and keep our draft pick.

I won’t shell out $360 annually for this until the Bulls show a very serious commitment to winning

If I weren't in antenna range, I would begrudgingly pay it.

It's a shame for Chicago-based. I pay $90 for the full season league pass for the Bulls as I live outside of the area.

No. Def not for this team (they should be paying me 30 a month to watch ) and probably not for a playoff team either. I do not watch baseball/other sports and wouldn't care about other programming.

If I didn't already get my antenna working w/ DVR, I probably would pay $20/mo to watch Bulls games.

If I was out of OTA range yes. Cable or Fubo would be much more expensive, and I don't watch any TV outside of sports.

That would be a narrow band of people though to be outside of antenna range but also not far enough away from Chicago to just use League Pass outside of blackout range. Although TBH I can only get a good signal in one specific place in my house and I have to setup the Antenna for every game and take it down after every game. It looks janky right in the middle of the window on top of a side table on top of a box. Even moving the antenna 6" in any direction causes stuttering. I've tried 4 different antennas too. So I could see someone paying $20/$30 just to not deal with the antenna issues and having a coax cable running through the middle of your home theater room.

This is a CHSN specific issue, I get all other channels 100% signal / 100% quality with any antenna placement.

FWIW, it is $20 a month if you only want the Bulls. $30 a month if you want all 3 teams, and $25 a month if you commit to the year long pricing.

If I had no other options, the answer would probably be yes, but there are robust other options. I have the antenna working, but if I didn't then I'd probably buy an IPTV provider.

I'd seriously consider it. Being outside the Chicago area if I want to watch the Blackhawks and Bulls I need to buy NHL Center Ice and NBA League Pass. So this CSN version would be considerably cheaper.

Nope. Which sucks because most of the time i'm at work during the games and can no longer stream them. But $20 a month for the junk product they have now? No way. Get Cooper Flagg and i'll pay it.

No I wouldn't. Mainly because it is very easy to illegally stream any sports games now a days. I can send links via PM if anybody needs them.

Luckily I live in the city and it has looked great on the antenna. Zero issues with the picture or sound.

You can get it for free with an antenna in the Chicago area.

Does anyone know how well the antenna would work from the Fox Lake area (for those of you that are familiar with the north suburbs)?

No way to know for sure without trying. Get an antenna and try it and return it if you can't get it to work. Though iirc they either already are or are going to also broadcast from other locations such as Rockford which might work better for you.

Generally, you will be close enough to get a signal, so it will depend where your antenna is placed and if you have anything blocking the signal from the antenna to your house.

Like roof/attic antenna with nothing blocking 100% you are fine. Basement antenna in a pack of buildings blocking signal 0% you can get it.

For me I had been waiting forever to do a rooftop antenna cause I didn't want any problems with signal, but then since I'd need HD Home Run for that due to placement, which also costs a couple hundred bucks I didn't want to spend, I just bought a $30 antenna. Tried it immediately next to my tv, got like half the channels not including CHSN. Then moved it 10 feet away in the same room not particularly close to a window or anything and got like 70+ channels including CHSN.

At that price, I’ll continue using an antenna and just deal with the inability to record/pause. I’m not going to bother with an antenna DVR for the moment.

Nope. Right now, that would be the best (legal) option I have for watching games, but I am not interested. Currently have Xfinity, which I don't love, but I also don't want to switch over to Fubo or Direct TV. I am in Illinois but using an antenna is not an option for me. Too far away from any signal.

I've watched two games this year because a kind soul posts a link shortly before the games on the Bulls discord, but usually I can't be bothered. Honestly it wouldn't be too much of a hassle to run an HDMI to my television and watch the game, but right now I am really just sort of turned off by the whole thing. Interest has been plummeting lately.

Thanks Doug and LC. I’m almost inclined to just pay the 20 bucks and suck it up. I like the Hawks but I’m not exactly a diehard. And as far as the Sox go…well, I’m a cubs fan. So you can put 2 and 2 together there. lol!!

I started watching the Bulls since the 90s. My friends and I would talk about and watch all the games. None of my friends talk about the Bulls or watch any of the games now. I watch the highlights on YouTube. If they win 4 games in a row I will watch a whole game. I am pretty confident that will take few years. So no I won't spend a dollar for this team. Thanks for letting me vent.

I've watched one game this year and that was at Doug's house.
