The latest is that it won’t be Baalke against Poles though. Kahn is gonna dump his GM if Ben Johnson requires it. The Jags are all in on Johnson reportedly. To me, that says the Bears better deprioritize their plans to interview every coach they can find in the the Rolodex, and full court press on BJ if they want to land him.

Saw a post implying that Allen is open to three opinion; bears, chargers or rams. That could mean that he'll be cheap. Rams definitely have a limited amount of money they'd spend on a WR. And I don't think the Chargers are breaking the bank either. If we can bring him back on a 12m deal, that would be outstanding.

I don't think that Warren and ownership would dump Poles if Johnson asks for it, but I do think that Poles not being extended (assuming he's not) means that Johnson will have a decent say in if the Bears should resign Poles after next season. All reports have always indicated he wants the bears job. I would assume he'd be willing to do a test run with poles for a year. Unless Poles (or the 30 other people who will be in the room) just completely turn him off.

I haven't bothered to mention him because it would be a lateral move but I would like for the bears to bring in Luke Butkus as OL coach. He might be willing to do it for the bears but If I recall, he was refused by the bears before.

I don't get this. What would a "full court press" look like? They have a limited amount of time on Zoom with Johnson. They can't really dedicate more toward the effort. All they could do it make a big monetary offer, and if that's what you mean, sure, go get him.
It seems not out of the realm of possibility that the Bears would make an offer without finishing the process with other candidates, though they do still have to comply with the Rooney Rule.

I'm certainly open to bringing him back, but I feel like you only do this once you've got the trenches squared away, if you still have the money.

If Warren wouldn't dump poles for a HC, he would have said so yesterday, rather than refusing to answer.

Apparently, the Lions game George McCaskey referred to being disappointed when Lions fans buying their tickets from Bears fans….George sold his own suite that day to …. Lions fans. That guy is a way bigger fraud than his image he likes to cultivate

I don’t know about this. One of the issues that people had with Warren at the presser after Flus’ firing is that he refused to answer hypotheticals. With that said, I have a hard time believing that Warren and McCaskey would go out of their way to accentuate the idea that a lame duck will be running point on this search.

Re: Bears 10.0: GM and coach watch before the draft
I will continue to say this as much as I like Johnson as a candidate. If GM placement is a condition of him accepting the job, I will instantly sour on him as a candidate. And it’s not a matter of support for Poles. It’s a lack of support for the idea that someone with BJ’s credentials would think that they could come in the door making demands about who the GM should or shouldn’t be. Tomlin, McVey, Shanahan…..fine. Johnson, no. It would indicate to me that his head may not be in the correct place.

Ownership sucks. No two ways about that.

All Johnson has to do is look at your past drafts if he thinks they were trash there will need to be a new GM to work with . It's really as simple as that .

We're estimated to have 83 in cap. You could give Allen 20m and still add 4/5 starters on the line.
My line would have been 15m but it sounds like it could be less. Which would obviously be better.

If Bellichick truly is an option, then he should be a the top of the list.

I think it could be that simple. But with Poles only having 3 drafts under his belt (all in the last 3 years) the jury is still out on 70% of the guys that he’s drafted. So for a prospective HC, gauging his draft competencies might prove difficult given the data available.

Pass on Allen for me. The money is better spent elsewhere regardless of how little the number is. He’s old and only going to get worse. DJ and Odunze and Kmet and Swift should be getting the bulk of the catches going forward. Tyler Scott or whoever can be our WR3 and 4/5 option in the passing game. A better coach and a better offensive line will hopefully do a better job of scheming guys open. Even if the number is cheap I’d rather spend less on WR that far down the pecking order not to mention that money could be better served in FA or extending our own players.

I’ve been in support of retaining Allen at the right dollar amount. However, you make a very good point with regard to extending our own guys. Brisker and Gordon extensions are right around the corner and I feel like we really need to retain them both. Having money to do so will be paramount.
