Who are your top 10 Bulls post 1998?

I'm mostly talking about how good you think they were as overall players relative to the league at their sustained peak, though if you think years of service are important you can factor that in.

Mine:

1. Rose
2. Butler
3. Zach
4. Deng
5. Ben Gordon
6. Noah
7. Derozan
8. Taj
9. Elton Brand
10. Kirk

My list is more based on ability than performance/stats if that makes sense. I left a lot of guys off the list that I thought were one-way players etc.

1. Derrick Rose
2. Joakim Noah
3. Jimmy Butler
4. Luol Deng
5. Zach Lavine
6. DeMar DeRozan
7. Pau Gasol
8. Nikola Vucevic
9. Carlos Boozer
10. Ben Gordon

I loved watching guys like Taj Gibson, Andres Nocioni, Kirk Hinrich, Nate Robinson, etc. Tyson Chandler and Elton Brand (briefly) also had some goods moments. But IMO these guys were all better players.

1. Rose
2. Noah
3. Deng
4. Butler
5. Lavine
6. Captain
7. Ben Gordon
8. Derozan
9. Boozer
10. Pau

I think Butler is better than Deng by far, but Jimmy's first 3 years with us were as a roleplayer. He had only 1 postseason as 1B to Rose and another 1 as the main guy, and that Wade/Rondo team wasn't popular for many reasons. Most of his legacy is with Miami. Deng did more in a Bulls uniform.

Lavine is obviously purely a regular season Bull, but it's an underrated Chicago career. Assuming we keep him all season, he'll be the #4 Bulls all-time scorer behind MJ, Scottie, and Bob Love. That's crazy. He's already the #1 3P shooter, and will keep growing the gap as long as he's here. He's likely to be our top 10 assist guy passing Toni Kukoc.

He's going to be #2 Bull behind MJ with the most 30 point games fairly soon, he's only 2 games behind Bob Love. He's already passed Derozan, Walker, Rose, Deng, Scottie. Butler is way down that list.

I liked Pau much more than Boozer, but he barely played here. Still, he was a starting All-Star big man in a Chicago Bulls uniform and I think that's happened exactly once in my lifetime.

1. Lavine
2. Rose
3. Noah
4. Butler
5. Deng
6. DDR
7. Hinrich
8. Vuc

That's as far as my list goes. The rest of the top 20 you could put in a hat and draw names.

It is based on the OP definition of talent as compared to the rest of the league. It does not factor in the quality of teammates/team and I am only considering the years they were Bulls. Not their entire career.

LaVine is not more talented than Rose.

LaVine isn't even a top 10 talent in the league.

Rose was a consensus top 10 talent and likely top 5 talent.

We aren't comparing them to the other players in the league at the time. Name something you think Rose did better than Lavine does.

Lavine scored 1700 more points than Rose in the same number of games as a Bull. He is a better shooter, and a better 3 point shooter. Lavine is a better rebounder. Rose gets an edge on assists but was never a huge assist guy, and lets face it he had better offensive players around him to make shots.

Rose's best TS% with the Bulls was .550. Rose shot under 45% from the field and 30% from 3. Rose certainly wasn't a better defender.

EDIT: before someone says it. Rose had a higher turnover percentage than Lavine, and they both averaged 2.9 per game.

You said this, "It is based on the OP definition of talent as compared to the rest of the league"

If you think Lavine is more talented than Rose, then our record should be much better than what it is, but it isn't.

Rose's impact dwarfs LaVine's.

His impact metrics were top 5 or top 10 in the league. LaVine is nowhere near that. It's not even close.

And I'm pretty sure Deng, Boozer, Noah, etc. are not better offensively than DeRozan, Vucevic, etc. You know they're not better either.

So... you can't think of anything Rosec was better at. Got it.

Rose had better teammates. Of course their record was better. He was on arguably the best team in the league at the time.

Their BPM was exactly the same. +1.8
VORP... almost exactly the same. 13.8 for Rose. 13.6 fir Lavine

5 seasons over 2, but now that you say it I’d be okay with Pau higher.

True. I actually forgot about Gasol completely on my list.

But what really amazes me is that Ben Gordon made the top 7 on, I believe, all the lists so far except 1. Ben Gordon?

29 playoff games, and of the post dynasty players only Hinirch has made more playoff 3s.

He was our closer the first year he made the playoffs post-dynasty, helped us sweep the Heat in 07, and helped us push the Celtics to 7 in 09.

Only Jordan and Rose have scored more points in a playoff game.
