If we target a #1 option via trade this offseason, who would you go after?

If we target a #1 option via trade this offseason, who would you go after?

Post#1 » by sco » Wed Mar 12, 2025 5:39 pm

I qualify my topic with the notion of building in feasibility. Like the best choice may be Joker, but I don't see him as remotely gettable.

Because I've put this one out there already, I'll start with Booker. I'm not saying he'd "gettable", but with the Suns imploding and Durant's departure likely (and look you could say Durant if you want), but I think he's too old. MAYBE, that precipitates in a full-on rebuild for PHO and Booker becomes available.

My premise starts with trading our 1st that will be in that 8-10 range, which could look very good to a rebuilding team.

We also have POR 1st, which you can now squint and see that conveying next season.

Followed by trying to get one (very optimistically 2) firsts (from ORL) for White.

Then I'd see if any of Ayo, Ball, Vuc (haha) can fetch another 1st.

There may be enough there to get a deal done.

Other names I've seen thrown around are Giannis and Zion.

Who you got?

Off the top of my head probably Durant. He's probably the most available elite talent even though he'll probably only play a few more years. Easily one of the very most talented players of all time and has proven what he can do to win titles.

Would you trade for Embiid or Paul George?

I wouldn't. Too injury prone.

Trade for KD and extend him to a max at age 37. That would totally be a classic Bulls move.

God forbid they try to win a championship with an all time great.

The Suns currently aren't even a play-in team with a healthy Kevin Durant. And no, the play-in race in the west is not that tough.

Old KD and whatever is left of the Bulls roster probably fights for a play-in spot at best. Even Prine KD couldn’t win a title as the #1 option let alone now.

Well of course they're not, their team has insane construction and redundancy

I wasn't suggesting that there is a realistic deal to be made that would be wise for us, but I'd sure make an offer.

Prime KD won two titles as the best player and Finals MVP lol.

The point is that that shouldn't matter if Kevin Durant was still good enough to be "the guy" on a contender.

What would be the point? We wouldn't be good enough to win a championship even if we had one or both of them, not to mention all the other risks and red flags associated with them.

I disagree. Phoenix is laughably one of the most poorly assembled rosters I've seen in a long time. Maybe Jeremiah Fears or Asa Newell will be as good as KD though so who knows lol.

And ours doesn't? Even in a hypothetical post-KD trade?

From an entertainment standpoint, KD. He's still a joy to watch. His jumper and iq is why he will continue to age well.

Problem is, I have no faith that AK would put a team around him remotely close to even winning a play in game. If you did KD you would have to load up on vets which means probably keeping Vooch. You would need to add another alpha scorer type and a bunch of stud defenders, high iq folks.
