Summer League

Post#1 » by Chi town » Sat Jul 12, 2025 3:35 pm

Don’t have a general SL thread. Share what you are seeing.

KJ - sucked bad first 3 games. Looked good last game.

Tre Johnson looks a bucket.

Will Riley didn’t put up numbers but he looked the part.

Would have liked Caleb Love as our UDFA PG. Could be a Ayo replacement.

Hansen Yang looked great last night. Blazers might really be cooking with that trade down move. Super aggressive pick at 16, but might pay off well.

Will be interesting to see how they play them together.

I was not impressed with Yuki ftr. I know we all wanted him to be a team mascot. He will need an actual costume.

Harper’s D is really good.

Bryant’s D is way far ahead of where I thought it was.

When I look at what the Spurs did the last two drafts I'm surprised that they didn't add size to either pair with Wemby or stagger minutes with him.

Carter Bryant might turn out to be great and I know they traded last years pick (#8) in the Fox trade, but they passed on these players:

Yang, Beringer, and Zach Eddy.

Opposing teams would have trouble dealing with their size, but I guess that's now how they wanted to build their team. It is what it is.

I'm surprised that Charlotte didn't draft Tre.

EDIT: I should add that a line-up of Ball, Tre, Miller, Bridges and Williams had the potential to be good (if healthy...big if). Ball, Kon, Miller, Bridges and Kalkbrenner not as much.

I still think they should move on from Ball and Im no fan of Bridges.

I've not seen as many games as I would have liked. So my biggest takeaway so far is this:

Carter Bryant looks like a brilliant pick by the Spurs. I'm already terrified of the Spurs defensive potential, and then they added this guy.

His first 2 or 3 possessions after he checked in were good. It was all downhill after that. Hopefully he has a better showing tonight.

I agree about their defensive potential (even though I just made a post about being surprised that the Spurs didn't add size in the draft). Bryant and Castle look like they could be a great defensive duo on the wing with Wemby in the middle.

The Spurs still need a better power forward, but that's something they can figure out down the road.

I have not watched this video, but the title cracks me up. Haven't heard a bunch of Cooper Flagg doubters, to the extent that maybe someone just thinks he'll be good and not a superstar, a summer league game isn't going to clear that up.

Also, not sure I have ever seen a picture of Cooper Flagg where he isn't sweating like he just finished a marathon.

Haha! Yeah the title is dumb, but I bet you could say that for many Youtube videos (everyone vying for attention).

I had CB (2nd after Jakucionis) as my preferred pick over Noa (I don't dislike the Noa pick), I still think he would have been a really good pick to pair with Matas in the front court. He was such a Spurs pick.

Noa is not going to look good in summer league at all because guys like him need good guard play to help set him up and
he needs to play with guys who draw attention so he can cut and dive to the basket. Bulls SL team has terrible guards and playmakers.
I think he will show moments at SL but wont really put it together. You will see him show out more during preseason when he is with real
guards and playmakers that he can react off of.

With that in mind why didn't the Bulls sign a decent point guard for Summer League (and potentially G League too)?

They did, it's Yuki. As to why they’re playing JFL, Young, and Poplar combined as much or more than Yuki at PG is beyond me.

He's a true pass-first playmaking PG, but he wasn't very good last game outside of a few early possessions.

Rocco is moving really well and is so active. Sure wish we kept our pick and nabbed him. He’s way better than Olbrich.
