Hansen Yang really looks like the real deal. I liked him a lot heading into the draft, but I never thought he'd go so early. Gutsy pick by Portland that may pay off.

Agreed. This might have been a great draft for a buy low center with Beringer, Sorber, Yang, Kalkbrenner, Raynaud. Too bad we just never invested in extra picks, even low ones.
Still not really sure Yang can defend the paint against NBA ballhandlers (which are usually star level) to start though, but he's only 20 and has a lot of development left still.

WOW. Cant hurt our chances of having that Blazers pick convey in 2027/2028 right???
BTW, pretty wild 35 year old Dame is making $70M this year between MIL/POR just to rehab his achilles.

Between the Jrue and Lillard moves, seems reasonably likely that Blazders make playoffs in one of next 2. So that means AK will throw that pick in to a Kuminga S&T (Coby+pick for JM)……..

Dame back to Portland is crazy.
Obviously he won't be playing next year, but his leadership plus Jrue (if they keep him) is going to make the Blazers a bunch better.
It's a good 'feel-good' story, but I never actually expected it to happen.

WOW that is unbelievable. I understand Dame is probably their alltime player of the franchise but still wow.

Great move for the Blazers. That young core is getting ready to cruise. Jrue and Dame are gonna be great locker room leaders for a monster core in Deni, Yang, Clingan, Sharp, Scoop and Camara. And he’ll be comfortable rehabbing at home and returning next year. I think they have a solid shot at a 6-8 seed, but definitely 2027 playoffs. AK will be able to add his Dalen Terry #2- he already knows he’s getting the player he’s had on his board since today.
Portland absolutely fleeced Phoenix, Milwaukee and Washington.

The irony that POR traded Dame & Jrue for a haul and ended up just getting those players back again.
Wow a NTC, sounds like this is a just a goodwill & retirement tour move.

Pretty much. The guy loved Portland, and vice versa. I also think he’ll come back and help at just the right time (either April 2026 if Blazers happen to make a post-season run, or 26/27 season), in a 20mpg role.

Maybe I'm not changing my view of modern medicine, injury recovery, and durability, but potentially 42M Dame feels like a lot given the circumstances.
I guess it's a high upside play if he does make a full recovery, you're getting a massive bargain for one year. I'd feel like I'd have wanted no options there so that you'd get the value deal for two years if it works out, but that probably wasn't plausible. Interesting move for both sides really.

This is one of those rare deals where the individual on court performance isn't really that important. I mean, they gave him a NTC and a Player Option. That should tell you what's going on.
Dame is the best player in that franchise's history. He's done so much for the franchise and the community there. He's basically signing on to be an ambassador, give the young players leadership and bring more fans back in.
He's 35. Achilles injuries are usually bad for older players in any sport. Portland knows they're likely not getting a bounce back to Dametime. He'll be 38 when he hits FA again. It sounds like he didn't want to ring chase while his family was still living in Portland. So, he'd rather just end it in the place that celebrates him the most and be comfortable with the life with his family.
Great move for both sides.

It’s this and it’s a nice sports story. There is more benefit to this on both sides than just a ring. It will help with development too.

I love it. He’s basically Mr. Blazer and is going to get a statue. And with the Jrue deal it’s not like this messes up their timeline.

It's pretty clear the Blazers are sick of being bad and perfectly happy to risk sending their pick to the Bulls, which is great. They obviously don't look to be contenders, but they could be pretty frisky even in the west over the next few seasons.

They're being forced to sell because of Paul Allen's will, they're an odd team because they're officially owned by a dead man. Teams at the bottom of the league in wins & ticket sales don't maximize sell price, even if the owners are mentally aware there's a process strategy going on. Blazers kinda going all in on winning sooner than it makes sense has been expected for a while because they've always needed a long-term owner. It's just an easier pitch to sell a young team that won 40 games and is poised to make the playoffs soon, vs a team that won 18 and telling the new owner you'll need to continue tanking for 5 more years until you get stupidly lucky. BTW have you seen how long Charlotte has been at this.
