Probably out for the season given how injuries for the Bulls usually go.

Damn I knew it predicted it in the preseason predictions. Sigh

Coby and Collins injuries have sapped my previous excitement and general optimism for the season before it's even started. Yep, Bulls basketball is definitely back.

Yikes. Really hate how this team announces injuries. I suspected given that there was zero evidence of him on the court, even in individual drills, that there was more than "oh we hope he's ready by the opener" going on here.

He'll be lucky to be playing by Turkey day.

Could be a blessing in disguise though. The team will learn how to get offense without having Coby bailing them out with shot creation shotmaking

If that's a blessing, then what's a curse?

Lol, AI told me like 20 minutes ago that he was expected to be available for the opener

He's been doing on-court activities as of last week.

This season is about to get off to a terrible start unless Giddey and Matas play like all-stars.

Like what? Shooting? If he was running with any anger or purpose at all the Bulls would have released some video. It was a worse calf strain then they let on as the initial report were he'd be ready to go opening night. Now 48 hours before the opener it's "we will see where he's at in 2 weeks".

It's just maddening as a fan to have this stuff like a State secret. It reminds me of when they didn't announce BD's extension, just why? Why not just be honest and tell us he was always likely to at least miss the first two weeks. Set the expectations.

I suspect they were telling the truth according to the information they had at the time.

It hasn't been a state secret. It looks like you're just not following the news.

Well, this is fine by me, given my general preference would be to have one more year in the lottery before trying to make a leap. It also allows Matas to cook, which is my main point of interest in the season.

Along with Collins out and Huerter shooting like the worst version of Denzel and Vuc shooting like Reggie Evans this is going to be an ugly start.

At least we should see a lot of touches for Matas & Ayo.

Kinda ridiculous that we have zero other instant offense players on the roster

I'd like Ayo to start the first game. He's bigger than Tre which I'd prefer facing Cade.

Always found it suspicious that Coby didn't play at all in the pre-season. If you expected someone to be able to play you'd want them to get at least a few minutes here and there to warm themselves up.

If Coby only takes a few weeks to get back on the court that's fine in the long run. I just hope it doesn't linger throughout the season. We have no other high quality shot-takers on the team and it'd be very hard to withstand his absence throughout the course of the season.

The Bulls always lie about injuries. I'm almost expecting the 2 week update to be that he's out for 3-4 months.

I don't get it. What is their motivation in lying?

My money is on failing to accurately diagnose/predict than on lying, but in any event, yes, they have a track record for under-reporting the severity of player injuries.

As to this specific injury, given how sometimes "calf strain" means "Achilles issue" and seeing what happens when guys try to play through that, I wonder to what extent Coby might just be wanting to be super cautious in a contract year. If he goes out and snaps an Achilles, the impact on him financially would be massive.
