Ayo will get paaaaaid! Very happy for the kid and pissed on AK... No secret I'm one of Ayo's biggest fans here from the start of his career.

But what a win for Wolves, without Ant (that looked ugly, knee hyperextension, yikes) and DDV. Their defense was playoffs version deluxe or rather say 90s defense

Maybe we could do some kind of sign and trade with Minny. Not only would they have to pay up for Ayo, they will also have a dead Dante contract on their books next year. Maybe we could take advantage.

Someone else here suggested the Bulls take on Dontes salary plus the #28 pick for #56.

I don't know if Minnesota would do that, but it would save them some money.

The following two thoughts need a big splash of cold water:

1. Minny isn’t going to pay Ayo as a priority after this (and everything he’d been doing since he arrived there).

2. Ayo is going to sign with a non-playoff team.

I’m no insider. But the one and only topic I can play at being one is Ayo. I “have a guy” inside Illinois’ basketball program and another guy who knows Ayo personally outside of it. And I’ve heard from both that Ayo loves the Bulls but was very happy about being traded because for him it’s all about the competition.

Which if you have followed Ayo’s career and growth is clearly true. We all know the money matters “the most” but all things being relatively equal, Ayo is not going to sign himself out of the postseason this summer.

Was not likely to happen before he got a taste, and fair to assume far less likely now.

This is way more an indictment of Billy's coaching then AK with Ayo

For a team in our situation trading Ayo was the right thing to do. And unlike with most of the fruit that AK let rot on the vine, there really wasn’t an “early good value trade” for Ayo due to his “secret” fractured shoulder that he had for almost 2 years.

I’m not entirely sure it’s on Billy either but certainly Ayo disliked the “layups and 3s only” mandate (which is the only thing I also hate about BD’s style).

To me it’s just confirmation that Ayo is really good, an absolute dawg, and a winner.

I still think Ayo will take the most money. This is going to be the biggest contract he signs in the peak of his career. But as you said, there was definitely a significant chance Ayo walked for a better situation.

This 180 on Ayo is satisfying to watch either way.

I agree, with “all things being relatively equal.” I don’t think he’ll take $2 million more per year to go to Sacramento. But I bet he’d take $2 million less to stay in Minnesota or any other high level playoff team with a defined role for him.

But certainly if someone bad backs up the truck he likely would and definitely should take it.

Don’t they get extra money by making the playoffs ? Making next rounds most definitely earns them even more.

I wonder how much but that’s always a factor between playoff teams vs non playoff teams.

Good for him but he’s also getting a lil cocky though, that I don’t like. Be more humble.

We had no choice but to trade all our young good players because of AK's inability to build a team. With or without Billy, Ayo would've still been a Bull - probably competing in the playoffs doing what he does now - if AKME reacted quickly from the Mid 3 and set us up for better success. We're now paying for all those years in a row of them standing pat and bad drafting that went nowhere. It wouldn't have made sense to keep Ayo or Coby and pay them a ton of money for a team whose ceiling is a low play-in spot.

I have never considered that before and think it’s the first time I’ve ever seen a poster mention it. Great point. I have read about postseason bonuses but only generally. I assume they may or may not be in player contracts on an individual basis, but maybe it’s baked into the CBA as an automatic provision? I don’t really know.

Ayo in his last 10 games of 2024: 19.7 PPG on 57/46/87. He has literally played like this in Chicago.

We've never seen a 40+ piece in the playoffs though obviously.

2024? You mean when he averaged 12.5 ppg on 50/33/75 over his last 10 games and then was out for the year?

Yeah, this is the version of Ayo that gets everyone excited, then he'll just disappear for a stretch. If he could do anything like this consistently, he'd still be here. He had a HUGE chance while Coby was out and he didn't do it. Maybe he'll figure it out,a nd I'll be happy for him. I think he'll go somewhere where he gets to start. That said, I saw that Divincenzo tore his achilles, so maybe Minny brings Ayo back next season because they'll likely need a starter now.

That said, maybe we can take back DD and either Shannon or Beringer or a 1st in exchange for a tpe (thought we had one)?
