Joe Smith didn't play after the 3:39 mark of the third quarter despite nearing a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds in 23 minutes.

Another rotation read that's clear from Boylan's first three games is that Joakim Noah and Tyrus Thomas should have some battles in practice for playing time. The only reason both played against the Magic is that Aaron Gray got into foul trouble in his brief reserve stint.

Otherwise, Boylan will be playing one or the other.

"The guys know I can't play all of them," Boylan said. "So on a game-by-game basis, we'll see how the matchups go. Practice, what your attitude is around the team, how positive you are, all those things will factor into it.

"When I was younger and I wanted someone's spot, I had my eyes on that guy and I tried to go out and get it. That's what they need to do."

After not playing Sunday in New York, Thomas started the second quarter. Noah replaced Gray. None played more than 5:34.

Its just this simple, if Paxson invested two (three if you call it just lottery) top 10 picks into guys that can combine for 5 minutes per game on an 11 and 18 team, he should be fired.

To some extent, the development time is worse. Beyond that, Boylan has more of a penchant for going small.

Right now, you have a GM who seems desperate to make the playoffs and a coach who is auditioning for the job. They aren't going to experiment apparently.

The guy I feel most sorry for is actually Noah. He would be getting playing time on most teams in the NBA, let alone the bad ones. As it is, the Bulls may be the only bad team in the NBA who would keep Noah on the bench.

Tyrus/Noah is not the future frontcourt, and it wouldn't work at all.

I disagree completely.

Tyrus /= Noah, and Noah /= Tyrus

They play two different positions, and their playing styles are different on offense. The only similarity is their frenetic defensive intesity, and their still developing offensive skills.

Tyrus has shown the ability to score, and given some development he can become a legitimate scoring PF.
