Thoughts on Tyrus Thomas and Trades?

Sixer fan here wanting to know about Tyrus Thomas. I know a while back he was demoted from the starting lineup. I've seen flashes of real potential from him during the Pistons series but have not gotten the chance to watch him that much since. Where does he figure in your lineup? Is he untouchable in your opinions? The Sixers currently have several pieces that I could see becoming available in the near future, primarily Andre Miller, Rodney Carney, Willie Green, Kevin Ollie, Reggie Evans, possibly our 7' rookie, Jason Smith if the right deal came along. Do you think the Bulls would be interested in any of these players for Tyrus or is he a building piece that is untouchable?

Jason Smith is a lot like Aaron Gray right now, so we really don't need him, and we don't really need the others becuase we have Hinrich at PG so Andre Miller wouldn't be happy here because he would come off the bench. The rest are just not needed.

It would be stupid to trade him right now for any combination of the players you've suggested. What we should be doing is finding ways to get rid of Nocioni or Wallace in order to create more PT for Tyrus.

Tyrus is being mishandled by the team right now. Hopefully Paxson realizes that and realizes that as a result his value is highly depressed and it would be stupid to trade him. Who knows though.

Cause they're both white? Haha. I don't think they're similar at all. Smith is an athletic PF and Gray is a lumbering true center.

I wouldn't forsee the Bulls being interested in any of these players for Tyrus. Even if he ends up being a bust when he eventually finds playing time you don't give up on the potential for guys who are just as big long shots and don't have the upside. The exception being Miller, who's obviously a very good and well established player who could help the Bulls, but he's also a lot older and isn't under a contract for next year.

Tyrus Thomas for any of those players mentioned right now is crazy. I like all of those players but not for the #4 pick just 1 yr ago. However Tyrus can be had for the right price, and Bull can be had. No more overvaluing our guys for me. If we can get a offensive post player for Tyrus or a legit sg I am all for it.

We had a thread on this very same question a while ago, and most of us seemed to think that the Sixers and Bulls are not good trading partners. If you want to swap Iggy and Gordon then a lot of our posters might be interested, but of course that would never happen. ;-)

I just envision a lineup of Louis Williams, Andre Iguodala, Thaddeus Young, Tyrus Thomas, and Sam Dalembert. To me, that would be one of the faster and more athletic lineups in the NBA. But the problem with it is that outside of Sam and Iguodala, Thaddeus, Tyrus, and Williams are all very raw and neither Thaddeus nor Tyrus have decent jumpers. Unfortunately, the player who was our best shooter was just traded to Utah.....

My main concern with Tyrus is whether or not he has the "it" factor. Is he aggressive to the point where he wants the ball in his hands? I know of one PF that the Sixers should aim for this offseason and that's Josh Smith, who does have the "it" factor. Our future PG, Louis Williams, also has it. Surprisingly, Andre Iguodala has developed it though it took some time. While Tyrus has definitely impressed me with his athleticism, does he have the right mindset to be a star in this league or will he end up being an athletic journeyman like Tim Thomas?

I like the Sixers and wish them lots of luck in the post- AI era. Josh Smith could be a nice option for you if you trade Miller for an expiring contract, but Smith is often accused of being a stat padder who's not really a team player. He has an "it" factor but an "id" factor as well, as in "id-iot."

Let's say you get this:
Williams/ Iggy/ Young/ Smith/ Dalembert

That could be pretty good down the road, but I have a hard time seeing that team competing with the elite.

As to whether Tyrus has the "it" factor, you'll get radically different answers depending on whether you ask his boosters or his detractors. There are plenty of both kinds. I'm a Tyrus booster, but I acknowledge that he's quite raw and I assert that he's being horribly misused. IMO, if he were to get a lot of PT and a green light, so that he's not afraid of making mistakes and playing through them, he would show you the "eye of the tiger" and become a very strong, aggressive player. But he's not getting that here, so there's no way to know if I'm right about that. The detractors will tell you that he dogs it too much and is mostly unskilled. They do have a point about the "dogging it" part, but IMO part of that is due to his being mishandled and jerked around.

At any rate, you're not getting him for what the Sixers could offer, so you might as well focus on Smith.

I'll give you TT for a Cheesesteak. It's not like he plays here.

Sounds a lot like Dalembert when he first got here. Obrien would yank him out of the game the minute he made a mistake. Unfortunately, I believe this prolonged his development. Fortunately, he's really made a nice turnaround since Mo took the helm. I think a guy like Tyrus would get the playing time he needs here because it's no secret that this team is in the rebuilding phase and willing to work with the younger players. On the other hand, it seems to me that the Bulls are being pulled in two directions because of their success last season and because you have veterans like Wallace on your squad who are not getting any younger. We were in a similar predicament when AI and Webber were here and it really stunted the growth of some of the younger players unfortunately.

A few schools of thought on Tyrus Thomas. The organization doesn't seem to think he is any good, so if they deem his value will only go down, it makes sense to trade him.

I'm not certain that Tyrus and Thabo aren't done on the Bulls, as far as being important players.

If I were Tyrus I would be demanding a trade (*behind* the scenes) and maybe if they get something back they can play it will help resolve the Paxson nighitmare that is the Roy/Aldridge/Tyrus triangle of nightmarish doom that Pax has created.

I'd do T2 for Reggie Evans. Works under TC.

-Gives you guys a talented young PF

-Gives us a veteran who rebounds, plays some D, and has no other skills. The qualities needed to get PT in Chicago.

The rebuilding 76ers certainly could be enticed into dealing Miller, who makes about $9.4 million this season and has another year left on his contract. A package built around Tyrus Thomas, along with a couple of other players for salary-cap purposes, might get it done.

How ironic. Maybe someone was reading our threads....

that article was from a few days ago and you if you go back to see the thread that was made, you will see how most of us would hate that proposed trade.

I do not like the idea of trading him before he ever plays real minutes

I can only agree with you!! Just let the kid play and lets see what he's got. I think this season seems perfect for that!
