Should we trade Joe Smith to a contender?

He has been pretty good all year but he is taking minutes away from our young guys. The fact that its either Tyrus or Noah who plays and not both is frustrating. I think he has some pretty decent value around the league.
Orlando could use him next to Dwight Howard and would help them compete with Detroit and Boston. Arroyo, Augustine, and a 1st rounder for Smith? A late-first rounder is a nice catch because it gives you a player for 4 years on a very cheap deal, very important when looking to stay under the tax.
The Nets and Lakers are two other teams that could definitely use him. As good as Joe has done this year I feel like he is holding us back in the long run. Thoughts?

This works and then you cut arroyo so orlando can pick him back up. this gives us all expirings, reddick and Orlando throws in a first. Ben and Dwight would be the best defensive and rebounding frontcourt in the league.
Change in Team Outlook: +15.8 ppg, -3.3 rpg, and +4.8 apg.
Incoming Players

Pat Garrity
6-9 PF from Notre Dame
2.3 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 0.6 apg in 12.5 minutes
Carlos Arroyo
6-2 PG from Florida International
6.6 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 3.9 apg in 19.7 minutes
Outgoing Players
Ben Wallace
6-9 C from Virginia Union
4.5 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 2.0 apg in 32.9 minutes

Because of Gary Payton a player cannot return to the team that traded him after being waived before the seasons end.

Gives us a little more than 11 mill in expiring, reddick and a 1st. This makes all future trades easier. Worst case scenairo we gave up Wallace for Reddick and a late first. Also makes resigning our guys easier. Not sure if Orlando wants to pick up that much salary but it would solidify their front court.

After signing Rashard Lewis to that ridiculous contact, I don't think there is a chance of Orlando picking up Wallace's contract. they would basically spend their whole cap on Howard, Lewis and Wallace. Would be tough to find a supporting cast and the Magis are in dire need of some good guards.

This very quickly became not-about the thread title.
Joe Smith really would help a near-set team. I want to keep him, but my goal is to win still. So it depends what yr goal is at i guess.

I would prefer to trade Wallace or Nocioni.
Joe Smith gives us something we don't really have from other players. A quality inside/outside scorer. The other guys overlap more.

I agree. We are like a 5 game winning streak away from being right behind the Pistons. In the East a winning streak and your a contender again.

Let's just keep Joe Smith and become a contender.

i suggested using him to the suns (perfect fit for him/them) as part of a larger Gasol deal-memphis would take on less $
However, Noc makes more sense to move, minutes wise. We need Smith right now.
For someone who's posted a lot of deals recently, I now think we hold off for a month or so, see what happens. I still predict we will be 6th seed by season's end then beat Orlando to lose to the pistons in 7

If we're going to trade any big man on the team, the order of preference should be:
1. Wallace
2. Nocioni
3. Smith
So, no, we should not trade Joe Smith to a contender unless we get a phenomenal return.

If we are trading a guy to "free up" time for the pups, Wallace should be first (but unlikely due to his salary) and Nocioni second to be traded.
Smith's skills blend better with TT/Joaker/Grommit.
