Okay, we all know we need to make some kind of trade to make enough room for Tyrus and Noah to play.

Since nobody would want Wallace and his salary and I don't think we will trade Smith unless it's for Gasol or a superstar type player - neither I don't think will happen.

So here is the trade proposal:

Bulls trade Nocioni + Thabo + Khryapa + 2nd rounder to the LA Clippers for Maggette + Aaron Williams + Ross

This works in the trade machine and really doable.

Nocioni's salary is descending and Thabo can bust out in LA. Khryapa can be solid with given minutes and with confidence and comes in cheap.

We get a starting caliber 2 and backup SF in Ross who won't demand lot of minutes.

Your thoughts?

Bulls lineup with that move:

Hinrich/Gordon/Duhon
Maggette/Gordon
Deng/Maggette/Ross
Smith/Tyrus
Wallace/Noah/Gray

The only thing about that is that we should be looking at trading Duhon + pick or something and get back another shooter (Pargo type)? or we develop jamesOn.

He's BYC, but the trade still works.

I'd like to get Maggette here, but I think that price is too high. Can't he (and won't he) opt out after the season? Nocioni/Thabo should be worth more than a 55 game rental.

Pax would certainly have to communicate with Maggette's agent about resigning him. Don't know if this is permitted under the CBA, but I suspect it is done all the time.

Yea I like Maggette, but he's supposed to be wanting an extension very soon, and makes things more complicated with our situation. If we get someone, it'd be easier if their already on a 2 yr./3 yr. deal.

At which point Pax prepares to trade Hinrich in the summer when his BYC status is cleared and his value is higher. He drafts a real PG in the first round and goes with a backcourt line up of:

PG - Gordon, free agent veteran, 1st round PG
SG - Maggette, Gordon, Ross

Honestly when you consider Sterling's history, I don't think Noc, at an average of almost $8m per, is someone they'd want. If they did, they'd probably just resign Maggette, but I don't think they'll do that either.

I can see a situation developing similar to what happened with Rashard last year, some sort of S&T deal in the offseason after he opts out. If not, I think they just let him walk entirely. The only chance I see being able to obtain him at the deadline is for a player on a rookie deal to go along with an expiring to make the deal work. Same goes for Cassell.

Unfortunately the only rookie type deal we have that I'd be willing to offer for him is Sefolosha, although I don't know if they consider him a viable option or not. I wish they would, because I think he'd be a great fit for them as a defensive minded 2/3 behind Mobley and Thornton, something they desperately need.

Thabo (rookie deal), Duhon (serviceable expiring), Khryapa (expiring)
Maggette, Ross

The deal works without Ross as well, but I figured another player to balance the rosters. If they plan on resigning Ross, they could always throw in Dickau instead.

The Bulls would never do that though. It adds a ton of salary. Given our cheap ownership, it all but guarantees that one of Gordon or Deng will have to be let go for nothing.

So in principle the deal would be Duhon + Thabo + Khryapa + Gordon/Deng for Maggette. In which case, no deal.

If Duhon is still on the team, he will get his minutes.

I mean, it would take something unfathomable like a four-game stretch without a made field goal (ignoring goaltending calls) to cost him his starting job.

Oh, wait. Well, at least different players aren't held to different standards. Gordon and Tyrus would get the same kind of rope, I'm sure.

Cliff, if Sonny_D1 were able to obtain Maggette for the deal proposed, Sonny_D1 would then look to dump Noc at the trade deadline as well, giving us an opportunity to retain both Deng and BG in the offseason.

Darn tootin'. And Noc isn't such a bad deal that you couldn't get back a nice young player, or a 1st rounder.

Maggette, Salmons, Miller, Childress should be really good fits here, and if teams are looking for a return of Noc, or expirings, we can supply it.

Ben B. would do Cool007's and Sonny_D1's posts any day of the week. Ben B. sure as heck would hope that our ownership would pay to keep Kirk, BG and Maggs on the team, especially if we could dump Nocioni for an expiring plus maybe a draft pick.

EDIT #2: On a more serious note, I generally preach the importance of getting a taller SG who can play defense, or else what's the importance of getting a taller SG? But if we were to get Maggette I would think that his offense, combined with BG's, would let us have a good shot at simply outscoring our opponents' backcourts even if our defense were to suck. And if BG walks then we could re-sign Maggs and shoot for a defensive-minded backup.
