Their fans have come here often trying to get us to understand that.

Yet, no sooner is it said than someone proposes another trade trying to dump Wallace on them.

While I agree they probably don't want Wallace, why the scorning response?

Honestly, who cares what Memphis fans on these boards, or Bulls fans for that matter, say or think. Unless any of us have spoken to Heisley and/or Reinsdorf directly, it's all conjecture anyway. We as fans sit on these boards clamoring for this, that and the other to happen all the time. Yet 99% of the time these ideas never come to fruition. Meaning "they ain't listening."

So I say let people propose what they wish, and care to agree or disagree as you please. So here, without further ado, blast me for thinking LA MIGHT have some interest in Big Bad Ben Wallce on a slightly modified version of a trade I proposed the other day:

Bulls Trade: Wallace, Noc, TT, Sefolosha, 08 #1 pick
Bulls Receive: Gasol, Navarro, Ariza, Stoudamire

LA Lakers Trade: Kwame, Ariza, Vujacic
LA Lakers Receive: Wallace, Sefolosha, Jacobsen

Memphis Trades: Gasol, Navarro, Stoudamire, Jacobsen
Memphis Receives: Noc, TT, Kwame (expiring), Vujacic (expiring), #1 pick

Kirk/Stoudamire/Duhon
BG/JCN
Deng/Ariza
Smith/Noah
Gasol/Gray

Trade ID #4405818

I'd trade Tyrus, Duhon, and Viktor + cash for Gasol

PG: Kirk H./ Curry
SG: Ben G./ Thabo
SF: Deng / Nocioni
PF: Gasol/ Smith
C: Wallace/ Noah

Ideally, I would want to create this team:
Kirk / Ben G
Big athletic slashing guard who can play the 2 or 3 / Ben G
Deng / see above
Noah or Tyrus / Smith
Gasol / Gray

Total salary would be (next year)
Gasol $15M
Kirk $10M
Deng $9M
Ben G $8.5M
Noah $2.5M
Smith $5M
Gray $0.5M
Total = $50.5M + big guard + bench guys

Between $50.5M and the luxury tax, you have a lot of room to pay a big guard and the bench.

If the team still had Wallace, it basically would be impossible to retain Kirk, Deng and Gordon.

So, the question for you super geniuses at trading, come up with a trade where you send out:
Nocioni
Tyrus or Noah
1st round pick
Ben Wallace
Thabo Sefolosha
Duhon

and get back
Gasol
Big guard who can play the 2 or 3.

As commented before, Memphis isn't taking Wallace, so you have to find a third party.

Try this on for size, a trade involving Chicago, Memphis and the Lakers:

Chicago trades:
BW, Noc, Tyrus, 1st rounder (top 8 protected), Knicks' 2008 2nd rounder

Chicago receives:
Gasol, Navarro, Vlad Rad

LA trades:
Kwame, Vlad Rad

LA receives:
Wallace, Knicks' 2nd 2008 round draft pick

Memphis trades:
Gasol, Navarro

Memphis receives:
Noc, Tyrus, Kwame ($7 million savings next year), 1st rounder (from Bulls)

Why for LA:
Neither Vlad nor Kwame play much of a role for the Lakers now. Kwame plays zero role, being injured. For the price of Vlad Rad's unattractive contract and Kwame's expiring-- the latter of which is valuable-- they get Ben Wallace to pair with Bynum, allowing Odom to play SF full time, and Wallace can back up Bynum when Odom swings to the 4 and Walton plays the 3.

LA is already quite good but Wallace might give them a boost as far as competing with the West's elite.

Why for Memphis:
They clearly liked Noc a lot last summer. Tyrus and Gay were said to be good friends a year or two ago and to have good chemistry. Kwame shaves $7 million from the payroll next year and they add the Bulls' 1st round draft pick in a deep draft.

THEN:
A trade b/w Chicago and Houston.
Chicago trades Thabo Sefalosha
Chicago receives Bonzi Wells

Houston trades Bonzi Wells
Houston receives Thabo Sefalosha

Bulls: (minutes)
Kirk 30/ BG 14/ JCN 4
BG 22/ Wells 16/ JCN 10
Deng 36/ Wells 12/ Vlad
Gasol 28/ Smith 20/ Noah/ Vlad
Noah 24/ Gasol 7/ Gray 13/ Smith 4

Total salary would be (next year)
Gasol $15M
Kirk $10M
Deng $11M (I think you're lowballing him, fish)
Ben G $10M (ditto here)
Noah $2.3M
Smith $5M
Gray $0.7M
Vlad $6.0
Wells $2.5 (if we re-sign him)
JCN $0.5
Total = $63M + bench guys (1.7 for Griff, peanuts for others)

That should still leave us under the luxury tax threshold.

Taking on Vlad Rad's contract would suck for us. I've never liked him-- bad attitude, bad rebounding, tweener size. But we could try to move him ASAP for expiring cr*p. Or who knows, maybe the Russki reunion will work wonders for both Vlad and VK. ;-)

I think besides getting a big man, getting a bigger guard is just as important to our futures success.

So take advantage of an upset Iggy, and trade either Kirk or Gordon for him. I think Iggy could fit fine alongside either player with the style that he plays at. Because both Gordon and Kirk are good enough spot up shooters along with Deng to take advantage of Iggy's slashing game which would leave our shooters open all day and night.

I make a hard run at Iggy. Philly have a bunch of swing players on their roster, and they are headed straight to the lottery with a whole lot of good guards, so they won't be losing out either way. Because the way they are going, they arn't going to get any better any sooner, which would mean an unhappy Iggy.
Why so serious?

Me too.

But Ben, I'd probably just keep Thabo as our 4th guard/SF in your scenario. Call me crazy, but I'd rather just keep Thabo.

Overall, very good deal.

Ben, i really like that trade but i think we can do without the sefolosha deal. Also, for next year i would still rather have sefolosha than wells. Yes wells for a one year thing, but i have not given up on sefolosha's game....yet. I also saw better play out of radmanovic this year. He will do well with our spacing, he can still shoot lights out. The only thing is....how will the Grizz handle thomas, nocioni, warrik, gay splitting the time at the 3 and 4. Gay can play the 2, but he is a more natural sf. I believe they would rather have noah than thomas. Noah gives them time to backup darko and backup nocioni or warrik at the 4.

Conley 34 Lowry 14
Miller 36 / Gay 8 / Lowry 4
Gay 28 / Nocioni 20
Noah 18 / Warrik 18 / Nocioni 12
Darko 28 / Swift 14 / Noah 6

Not to mention they would have their own 1st rounder and our first rounder. Don't understand why their fans don't want to rebuild like that. Not to mention, tons of cap space the following 2 years.

We're left with a top 3 team in the east:

Kirk 34 Gordon 10 JCN 4
Gordon 26 JCN 12 Sefolosha 8
Deng 38 Radmanovic 10
Smith 26 Noah or Thomas 22
Gasol 36 Gray 12

Yeah, whodey and Sonny_D1, I hear you re: Thabo. Trading him would be a risky proposition. The thing is, I'm not really convinced that Thabo can play the 2 very much. Bonzi can. He used to be a very productive, albeit volatile, player but has bottomed out in the last year and a half. He's had all kinds of issues. That

Although Noah might be a better fit, I think the Grizz would covet TT for his athleticism, upside, and crazy as it may sound, his "highlight reel" ability. Let's face it, from a publicity standpoint, adding another "dunker" like TT would help draw fans to the stadium. He and Gay could make one of the most exciting 1-2 punches in the entire league. Couple that with the up and down offense Iavaroni has implemented, and they could very well become one of the most exciting teams to watch.

The trade will most likely be (if there is one ) Gordon, Thomas, Nocioni, for Navarro & Gasol.

Return to Chicago Bulls
