One of our biggest needs has always been a big SG and Jrich fits that mold. Of course he has his flaws and his contract is huge but how many of you would take him right now over BG? Stats wise the only advantage I see BG with is his FT %. Besides the major stats Jrich also has BG on size, strengh, slashing, finishing and he is still only 26. He may not be a "star" but there aren't many "star" SG readily available and the Bobcats got him for practically nothing; 8th round pick aka Brandon Wright and SG is one of our needs. So just curious how many of you would take Jrich over BG right now?

The point of wanting a big shooting guard is for defense, where that big shooting guard can help out. But Richardson isn't a good defender. You're getting a taller man, but that's about it. And youg et a worse ball handler than Ben, whom we know to be someone that needs to continue getting better at that.

Big shooting guards are meant to defend and slash. Thats the advantage Richardson should have over Gordon. But Richardson loves the 3, and is no longer very explosive. He can't shoot fts, so his somewhat increased ability to drive is hurt by that. Defensively, he's better than Gordon on two's, but comparatively for the positions they guard, they're even or Gordon could even be a bit better.

The only advantage I really see Richardson having is his post game. However, its not THAT good, and does not cause many doubles.

Gordon is younger, cheaper, and probably already better imo.

The big SG shouldn't be seen as a guy to replace Gordon, but to compliment him. Especially if Gordon is being used off of the bench. Since he is a compliment to him, we don't need him to be an elite scorer. He just has to be solid. A 10-15ppg SG with good defense is all we need. It takes Duhon out of the starting lineup when we play 3 (or some nights 2) on 5 offensively.

I agree with what the others said about JRich's defense. Id like to add that he's primarily a 3 right now. If we were to get a tall 2/3 who doesn't play much defense I would much rather have Maggette, who is considerably cheaper and can get to the line extremely well.

Why don't we ever hear Magette mentioned in the papers as someone the Bulls are looking at?

I've got to agree with Bulls6.

I don't know what good being a 6'6" SG is if you are spending most of your time behind the 3pt line. He doesn't get to the FT line (Gordon avgs more FT attempts per game). And Gordon is most definitely a better defender than JR

It's more to do with Sam Vincent, heck they're playing Gerald Wallace at the 4 a lot of the time.

Well, lately JRich has been playing pretty terrifically. Earlier in the year he was averaging 17 or 18 ppg on 40% shooting, but he has pulled it up to 20ppg and is shooting an insanely high 3-pt FG% (much higher than his career average). If he keeps up that pace, which seems pretty unlikely to me, he'll be well worth his salary in Charlotte's eyes. Although again, he's primarily a SF and they were strongest at that position. His play could be one of the reasons why Charlotte was willing to trade Herrmann to Detroit.

If JRich were really a full-time SG and could defend the 2 reliably he would be just what Charlotte needed. Even as it stands he's been a very nice addition for him thus far. We'll see how he holds up.

Both Roy and Lamarcus Aldridge refused to work out for charlotte. Their agent didn't want them there.

that's an interesting stat, i'd have guessed the other way until i looked at the numbers.

this is a really good comparison of players. you'd think the taller Richardson would be a dunker but he's not.

but he looks to me like a better ball handler than Gordon.

i'd almost go with "pick 'em" on this -

Richardson over Gordon if you had to pick one and it shouldn't be close.

For their Careers... Gordon averages 4 FTs a game and Richardson averages 3.9... this coming off his surgery on his knee which turned him into more of an outside shooter who is slowly getting back to his old attack the rim ways... he's actually becoming a better outside shooter because of it and that just helps him become a better overall player.

Richardson would be an upgrade DEFENSIVELY over Gordon on size alone. He'd make it harder for teams to switch us up and go to the low post against someone and harder to just shoot over our SG.

No, Richardson isn't the pure outside shooter Gordon is, but by far he has a better all around game then Gordon and can handle defensive pressure while dribbling far better then Gordon can.
