Sefolosha brings size to backcourt

Everyone from general manager John Paxson to coach-in-waiting Scottie Pippen has pointed out the Bulls' need for a taller backcourt.

Now there may be a way to confront the issue.

Thabo Sefolosha, the team's tallest guard at 6-feet-7, fared well the past two games starting in place of Kirk Hinrich, who was out with back spasms.

Sefolosha hit 10 of 13 shots, scored 26 points and committed just 2 turnovers in 77 minutes of playing time. Hinrich's status is questionable for tonight's game against Golden State.

It's natural to ask if Sefolosha should remain in the starting lineup once Hinrich returns. Six-foot-1 Chris Duhon has been a starter since Ben Gordon returned to the sixth-man role Dec. 28.

"There will be a lot of people wondering, and to me it's just something that will evolve," coach Jim Boylan said after Wednesday's victory over Miami. "No one's pressing Thabo. We're just using the last couple of games for him to regain his confidence and get back to where he was at the end of last year."

Sefolosha seemed to lose his confidence early this season. He coughed up some bad turnovers, didn't hit shots, and his playing time dwindled.

"I never really lost confidence," Sefolosha said. "I was just waiting for my chance. There's no substitute to playing in a real game.

"I can practice all day long, but if I don't have that experience to get on the court, that's really what I need."

As far as staying in the starting lineup, Sefolosha is open to the idea.

"That's the coach's decision," he said. "Chris Duhon has been playing well. Both of us have had ups and downs. I'd like to be in that position. If not, coming off the bench is fine, too."

Huh. So there is no substitute to playing in the game. Who'd have thunk it?

I'm either wrong or Thabo is lying. I'd go with the latter, I think Thabo had lost confidence and that we are only just seeing him regain some of it to the level where he can be of some use.

You only just have to look at how Thabo is/was playing to see that he has been extremely tentative offensively.

Minus the jumpshooting woes, it's all a matter of confidence if you ask me.

Liar!

"Chris Duhon has been playing well."

Is he blind or just stupid?

So if Thabo came out and said something like:

"Yeah, I lost all my f***** confidence. In fact, I was almost at the point where I wanted to just put a bullet to my head cause I thought I didn't belong. But now that I'm getting a second chance, I'm trying to make the most of it."

Would that make everyone feel better?

The only thing that make me feel better is the warmth of his gaze.

Not at all, and thats not what I was saying. I was just making it clear that I think confidence plays a huge part in Thabo's success or lack of.

So, he is still a liar. Just a good liar because he said all the right things.

Start Thabo please. Duhon sucks. There no understating how much Duhon sucks right now, 'cause man, he reeeaalllly sucks. Even if Thabo were to suck equally at least we wouldn't be starting midgets.

Hey, that's probably the only funny "neutral Swiss" joke I've ever seen on RealGM, so a big  for you.

Well. Thabo certainly is politcally correct. I like how he handles himself both off and on the court. Chris Duhon has been playing well - (in my best Eliza Doolittle impersonation) - gawwwonn.

I hope he gets more time and I hope he continues to play with confidence. Against the Heat, he sure looked like he had a nice command of the team and was directing the players pretty damned well. He deserves time ahead of Duhon. He's a better defender and rebounder. He can hardly shoot any worse (although he sure tried earlier in the season). Duhon is more careful with the ball and can get into the lane pretty easily, but he can't finish. Thabo can also and has the length to finish or at least get the whistle.

Play the Swiss Sensation!

Thats probably what he thought in his head though.

I would feel better if, you know, the Miami Heat decided they might try and play some defense within say 5 feet from the Bulls guards. Still, he was magnificent, going down the court unfettered like he was a guard on the And1 team.

Thabo responds to unconditional love, so show it to him. He is beautiful and Swiss

He just flashes "Blue Steel" and defenses grind to a halt.

Is there any arguement to start Duhon over Thabo? I cant think of any, this would drive Mr. Spock nuts. Illogical.
