Just saw it today.
I will give it two different reviews. On one hand it is a good movie, if taken as simply for what it is. On the other hand, with all the supposed "clues" and mysterious viral marketing the movie was promoted with, it is an enormous disappointment.
I'd say I enjoyed it and it definitely has its moments but I would haved liked more of the monster and less of the actors. The dialogue is also either effective or painfully lame.

it was a good movie, biggest cons were the ending and theres little to none explanation of the monster, what it is, why its doing its thing, or anything, I mean, I saw the youtube analysises of what it could be before it came out, which led me to look into the monster, so I kinda got what the hell it was doing...not really because theres not much on the interwebs about it. But aside from the abrupt and sort of cliffhanging ending and the fact that you don't learn much of anything about the monster, its a good movie.

I am sort of digging the vibe that the movie seems to be pretty contained to a group of friends and their experiences, instead of an epic monster movie. I like the idea of being somewhat in the dark as to what the monster is and why things are happening, of only knowing and seeing what the characters are exposed to.
I guess the way to explain what I mean is comparing the films SIGNS and INDEPENDENCE DAY. Both were alien invasion movies, but SIGNS was far more intimate and concentrated on characters (even if the ending did suck).
My lady has a couple of free movies passes so maybe I'll go check it out in a week or two after the crowd dies down a bit.

I agree Jo Jo. The problem is that the movie marketed tself with all this mystery. . .and then never answers anything! I also felt that the characters would be far more interested in trying to watch the thing if they were at a safe distance.

I tend to enjoy movies that don't go out of their way to explain all the details of the plot or tie everything up at the end in a pretty bow. Still, I haven't seen the movie yet, so I could end up being very disappointed. Time will tell.
I do agree though that the movie has had one hell of a viral marketing campaign. I've actually done a pretty good job of ignoring most of it, but you can't help but be exposed to some of it. The people that have followed it closely, and have the movie incredibly hyped in their own mind, will be hard-pressed to be satisfied, no matter the quality of the film.
Now, I am off to grab a cool, refreshing slusho! You know, you really can't drink just six.

Well that's disappointing. I Am Legend sucked ass, Sunshine sucked ass…I was hoping this wouldn't. Even Transformers wasn't that great, unless you're a Michael Bay jocker.
Just a bad year all-around for sci-fi, really. 2008 doesn't seem to be starting off great either.

Please don't misinterpret my post folks. . .it's a pretty good movie. It has some real great moments.
Go see it.
I was one of those people who followed (albeit only in a cursory way) the viral marketing thing. It just seems like a @#@# tease to hint at all these things to be revealed that never are.
If you are one of the people that followed the campaign you will be disappointed. I still was able to moderately enjoy it.
It does put a different spin on the big monster movie (as mentioned earlier) and it does that fairly effectively.
Also. . .are you all forgetting Iron Man? That looks like it has potential.

dude, this movie looked like it could have gone straight to the sci-fi channel. right after boa vs python or leprechaun in space. ill wait until it comes out on tnt or something, which probably wont be too long.
but ironman? he was my favorite super hero as a kid. im hoping this movie doesnt turn out to be a joke like what they did to F4.

Just saw it. Loathed it. The dialogue was stilted, if not awful, at points, and the backstory will have you screaming for less. The monster parts were fine, but sometimes too involved in the marvel of the monster rather than the terror of the moment. There were several lulls I felt lasted a beat too long. The marketing for Nokia was blatant, and utterly painful. The Mountain Dew subtle advertisements made me giggle. If you wanted to go see it, see it, its a cheap thrill for some.
But I'd go rent the Blair Witch Project instead. Same premise on a smaller scale, more tastefully and inventively done.

Or, if you are looking for something for more tasteless (as opposed to tasteful) with a similar premise, go check out Cannibal Holocaust.
But really, you probably shouldn't.

I rarely go to the theaters and when I do I don't go see movies based on reviews, I go to see a movie that I know will appeal to me. I was planning on seeing this movie because I thought it was going to be what the American godzilla should have been. But if it's just 9/11 meets Blair Witch I'm gonna say f-it and wait for Rambo 4.
